It's time for a dose of happiness in #HighlightsofHappy 39 blog linky because life's for the good stuff. We Look Back On The Week With Gratitude

Your weekly dose of happiness…

Let’s spread the happiness!

It’s a common phrase isn’t it?…

“Bad things come in 3’s”

or words similar to that!

So, let’s flip it because everyone deserves a little happiness … (you know how I love to spread happiness and turn a negative into a positive with positive thinking !)

Let’s spread that happiness and find 3 things to be grateful for (or even more… well, why not?!)

It's time for a dose of happiness in #HighlightsofHappy 39 blog linky because life's for the good stuff. We Look Back On The Week With Gratitude

In my weekly feature, I look back over my gratitude journal because that’s the great thing about gratitude and using my gratitude journal – it gives me the opportunity to look back and be grateful all over again 🙂  And that’s what I do here, in my weekly feature, I look back and on my #HighlightsofHappy.

I round it off with one word that sums up my happy…  why not do the same?

If you’re a blogger, why not share your happy post from the last week or so in the linky below?

If you’re on instagram, why not tag your happy snap #HighlightsofHappy and link up your pic in the linky below?

If you’re on twitter, why not tweet your happy with #HighlightsofHappy ?

If you’re all 3, why not do all 3??  The linky is below. (To link your insta happy snap, simply click on your insta pic, copy the url and paste into the linky tool!)

…so what’s been making ME happy?

Last week my word was ‘hols’ and I’m carrying on that theme this week 🙂 …

Lazy days ~ whiling away the time, mooching around, in each other’s company but in our own space.  Just pure bliss!
Catching up with friends at an easter egg hunt.  So nice to see our girls pick up where they left off a couple of months ago.

and this…

Time to read my book every single day!

Our new garden gnome, Mr Wotziname!  He puts a smile on my face everytime I see him!

~ MEET MR WOTZINAME ~ After deciding that a corner of the garden needed brightening up, this cheeky looking little fellow found his way into the car! Mr Wotziname: loves gardens (but not so keen on gardening!), loves stripes, sunshine, sunglasses, and swimming! Dislikes being left on the shelf in the seasonal section of @georgeatasda . So now we’re just waiting for the sunshine to come back… and a Mrs Wotziname! 🌞☁ . #HighlightsofHappy #MyHappyCapture #LifeCloseUp #TheMagicinEveryday #MakeMeSmile #Happy #HappinessEverywhere #CapturingtheDay #CaptureMyPositive #MyDarlingMemory #livingfearlesslyauthentic #happylittlebuttons #gnomeneedsahome #outdoors #gnomesneedhomes #cheerfulchappy #outdoorliving #needaMrsWotziname

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘lazy’ for obvious reasons!  I’ll have to get back to reality very soon but for now, I’m savouring every second 🙂

How about you?  I’d love to hear about your ‘happy’ in the comments below or tweet me @AllSortsHere using #HighlightsofHappy

…so what’s been making ME happy?

As I type this, our daughter is chilling out after breakfast.  She’s had a busy (but fun-filled) week and this is the start of our Easter hols together.  I’m so ready to down-tools and virtually switch off for a week!  I’m grateful that I recognise when I need to switch off and can take the opportunity too as well.  This week I’ve seen something on social media about working mums not switching off from their smartphones (but the necessary side of using it).  I’m guilty as charged (if guilty is the right word) and there’s a place for that in my life but there’s also a place to step back and enjoy the moments that make life so simple and special 🙂

Our daughter has seen her childminders again this week (2 lovely ladies who work together).  She’s been going to them since she was 9 months old when I returned to work after my mat leave.  I didn’t want to return to work but they work so well together, they just gel and we’ve never had any issues with them.  To say that she adores them (and they her too, I believe!), is not only so reassuring but lovely to see and hear about (she tells us who misbehaves! – out of the children, not the lovely ladies!).  For us, our childminders have been the perfect solution from day 1 and our girl is always drawing them pictures, giving them nick-nacks and has decided to name 2 kittens (when/if we get them!) after them too! Love her!

and this…

For the simple things in life like line-dried washing.

For doughnuts.  The really scrummy ones with sprinkles!  Perfect with a decaf 🙂

For learning more about kinesiology and the meridian lines.

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘hols’ because I’m so ready, we’re so ready to unplug (mostly!) and kick back!  See you on the other side 🙂

…so what’s been making ME happy?

I saw our daughter cheerleading and they did so well!  She absolutely loves dancing and singing, much like any other 7 year old.  And now she wants to do the club again next term, so we’ve put her name and down and will find out in a couple of weeks…  oh and of course she had an ice cream afterwards just because!

For cuddles after tea with my beautiful girl.  I’m very aware that she’s literally growing before my very eyes both emotionally and physically.  So any opportunity that I get, I’m downing tools where possible for cuddles.  I’m savouring these cuddles and feeling the love with every ounce of my soul 🙂

A lovely warm bath… such a simple thing but you know those moments where the temperature is *just* right and you can get straight in.  That!

We’ve got a holiday on the horizon and I’m so ready for a break!  Bliss!

Our girl won a prize in the easter egg decorating comp at school and she was so chuffed!

and this…

On our walk home from school, I saw a penny, picked it up and said I’d pop it in the charity box in the shop.  But we had literally walked past charity shop.  Quick as a flash, our daughter kindly suggested we pop in there instead.  So we did and I was so proud of her generosity.  A penny isn’t much to adults perhaps, but to a 7 year old, it’s money and more importantly, it’s been given to charity.

We squeezed in a trip to the cinema to see Beauty and the Beast at the weekend.  It was either then or May because it’s all booked up!  The local cinema had been refurbed a while ago but none of us had been since.  It’s so nice to be able to recline and made our daughter’s first cinema experience so nice.  She loved the film and of course the popcorn!  I wrote a little fiction piece for The Prompt which was inspired by Beauty and the Beast ~ Ready to bloom again?

After the cinema and a quick bite to eat, we picked up her friend for the much-anticipated sleepover.  They had a brilliant time and it was lovely to hear them giggling away with their ‘midnight’ snacks!

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘cinema’ and I’ve no idea how I’ve managed to choose just one word this week!  But it was the first time going for our girl and we were both so very excited that it’s surely a memory that will stay with us both.  And that’s what matters 🙂

How about you?  I’d love to hear about your ‘happy’ in the comments below or tweet me @AllSortsHere using #HighlightsofHappy

Depression CAN be beaten ~ my first steps

Depression Can Be Beaten - My First Steps. I Tell You How I Took The First Small steps To Overcome the Depression By Self-help

 Depression CAN be beaten…

Around 10 years ago, a sequence of events in my life resulted in me becoming anxious and it wasn’t too long before I felt unable to cope.  A relationship breakdown, 2 bereavements in quick succession and finally, work was the final straw.  My wonderful doctor listened patiently and diagnosed me with depression.

After a week off work, I was referred to an occupational counsellor.  I had a chat on the Friday and by the following Monday I had ‘jumped’ the NHS waiting list and was talking to a counsellor.  I say ‘jumped’ because the counsellor that I saw was likely the very same one that you would see from a doctor’s waiting list.

Now I’ve never been one to criticise the NHS.  Quite the opposite.  I’ve got nothing but praise for them.  They saw me through a complicated pregnancy and have given my family and friends excellent service, against the odds of low funding and low staffing.

So yes, I will defend the NHS to the hilt but the waiting lists were (and possibly still are) very long for people diagnosed with depression.  ‘Fortunately’, the depression I had was very mild.  If I’d had it more severe, I would’ve been waiting much, much longer to be seen.  And this is dangerous.

Depression Can Be Beaten - My First Steps. I Tell You How I Took The First Small steps To Overcome the Depression By Self-help

Finding the right help

Because once depression gets its claws in and takes hold, it’s hard to bring yourself out.  Very hard.

My doctor was wonderful, advised me to book double slots because he wanted to help… properly.

He told me right from the start that he’d prefer not to give me medication and I will be forever grateful for that.  I didn’t want drugs either but was in such a fog that I’d probably have taken them.

I know there’s a place for them but in my situation, they weren’t the answer.  There are other ways to dig yourself out of the ‘black hole’.

I would never claim that it’s easy to climb out, or even that it’s easy not to slip back in.

Because once you’ve experienced depression, it’s my opinion that you never fully recover.

But you can be aware of your triggers and deal with them swiftly to stop that spiral…

No-one’s immune

What’s important to remember about mental health is that anyone of any age can experience it, at any time.  Put simply – no one, but no one is immune.

And that includes children.  Emily Palmer has produced a great little book called ‘Scrambled Heads’ aimed at guiding children through mental health.  You can read the review of ‘Scrambled Heads’ here.

When I was going through it and recovering, I used a great book that for me at the time was indispensable – 50 Things You Can Do Today To Beat Depression
by Paul Vincent.   There will be a review coming soon.

My point is

My point is that there’s help out there.  Help that gives your brain a long-term chance, rather than a cheap plaster that keeps coming off.

If I may add that if you’re reading and you’re on medication for depression, and if it works for you – well that’s great for you.

However, my personal experience has taught me that a natural, self-help approach works best (or at least it did for me).  I will cover these methods in my series ‘Depression CAN be beaten…’ – subscribe so that you don’t miss it… use the opt-in form below or in the sidebar.

How do you deal with depression?  Or how do you help someone you know to deal with depression?  I’d love to hear from you.  Comment below or tweet me @AllSortsHere

…so what’s been making ME happy?

Well it’s been an amazing week, truly it has…

After a hospital appointment, I was discharged which, believe me, was an immense relief!  A dear friend is not in such a good position and that’s really made me stop and be in the moment.  I make no apologies for how corny that might sound.  Because I’ve savoured every single good feeling I’ve had and hope to remain in this ‘in the moment’ mindset. Savour the good times people 🙂

The after school cheerleading club is doing a little performance for the parents and carers.  Our daughter came out of the club this week clutching a slip of paper with details and I’m SO looking forward to it!

I went to see our girl’s class assembly and was so very proud of her doing a little solo introduction.  She had been practicing her lines but she didn’t make it clear to me that she was actually introducing the class topics at the start of the assembly.  Her voice carried very well and she remembered the words of the little intro. 🙂

We saw my grandparents, our daughter told them all about what she’s been doing at school, about her excitement for her up-coming sleepover and well everything in between!

For playing the recorder with my daughter.  Yes, it came with a silent apology to the neighbours (!) and a *slight* cringe as she didn’t quite have her fingers fully over the holes at times… but that’s all a part of the fun hey!

I had time to myself for pretty much a whole afternoon while hubby and our girl went on a little shopping adventure.  I curled up on the sofa in the sunshine like a cat and stayed there for a very long time 🙂

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘amazing’ because looking over my gratitude journal, it’s literally full on every page.  That tells me that a whole load of happy has been going on.  And my mood and mindset totally reflects that.  I make no apologies for being happy and I never will 🙂

How about you?  I’d love to hear about your ‘happy’ in the comments below or tweet me @AllSortsHere using #HighlightsofHappy

Positive Thinking ~ Choose to be optimistic; it feels better

Positive Thinking Choose To Be Optimistic For Your Wellbeing And Mental health

This blog is all about turning any negative into a positive.

And this linky is all about positive thinking – each month I focus on an inspirational, motivational, positive quote.

This month, remember to…

Choose to be optimistic ~ it feels better

We all benefit from a little bit of optimism… or a whole lot of optimism! There’s no limits to how much you can have.  And however much optimism you choose to have in your life, don’t let anyone take the positive outlook away from you.

You know why?

Because it does feel better!

I’d love to hear from you. Tweet me @AllSortsHere using the hashtag #PositiveThinking.

Let’s create a virtual wave of positivity!

#PositiveThinking is my monthly blog linky.

Link up any blog post with a positive and happy theme (and it’d be great if you could copy my badge below into your post).  Perhaps your positive thought could be connected to a goal you have in mind, something funny you’ve heard or something funny you’ve seen.  If it’s got a PositiveThinking theme, it works for this linky.  Old or new posts, it doesn’t matter – link up as many as you like.

The linky door is always open.

~

Also join me on twitter.  Tweet anything positive and/or promote your positive blogpost (the one you link up!) with #PositiveThinking and include a direct tweet to me @AllSortsHere… I’ll share by retweeting.

Let’s get the positive vibrations going good and strong 🙂

And while you’re here, last month A Positive Parent linked up to PositiveThinking.  Here’s their link if you missed it…

…so what’s been making ME happy?

It was my birthday and our daughter found me some pretty nick-nacks from her bedroom (her newly de-cluttered bedroom!) and ‘wrapped’ them up for me!

We went out for birthday food, just the 3 of us.  It was yummy and lovely to spend time with hubby and our girl.

My brilliant mum baked me a lovely cake (apparently she had instructions from our daughter!).  It was chocolate, with sprinkles.  🙂

…and…

Seeing our daughter come bouncing out of her cheerleading club.  I wasn’t sure how she’d be, seeing as she was sick over the weekend.  It can often take a few days for children to recover fully energy-wise can’t it?  Well, she loved it, though she did go straight to sleep that night, with little or no reading to her teddies!

I had pizza for lunch.  It must have made an impression because it’s in my journal!  Well, why wouldn’t it be?  But you see, that’s the whole point.  That day, the pizza was a highlight and I was able to take the good from the day and write it down.  Always grateful, no matter how small it may be…

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘nick-nacks’ because having them wrapped up haphazardly with love and then thrust in my hand… what more could you want? 🙂

How about you?  I’d love to hear about your ‘happy’ in the comments below or tweet me @AllSortsHere using #HighlightsofHappy

…so what’s been making ME happy?

Getting our daughter’s bedroom sorted out.  By that I mean de-cluttered, cleaned and re-arranged.  She was due to ‘help’ but had a sickness bug so I did while she had snuggles with daddy.  To be fair, it was probably easier that way.  Her room now looks much bigger (and tidier- for now!) with the furniture rearranged!

Sorting out an airbed for her friend coming round in a few weeks for the first sleepover at ours!

…and…

A looong lie-in (albeit due to a poorly daughter who slept until gone 10… so we lounged around until then too!)

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘de-cluttered’ because our daughter’s room looks and feels so much better for it.

How about you?  I’d love to hear about your ‘happy’ in the comments below or tweet me @AllSortsHere using #HighlightsofHappy

…so what’s been making ME happy?

Having a wonderful Mum who helped out and ‘baby’-sat for us while we went to parent’s evening.

Having pancakes with chocolate spread and strawberries – from the shop!  I did consider making them but my escuse was that we were short of time because of parent’s evening!!

Talking of which, we had a fab parent’s evening.  Our daughter is ‘a good all-rounder’.  And when your child’s teacher tells you that, well you really can’t ask for more! 🙂

…and this too…

Having cold and flu tablets in the house… At the beginning of the last week I wasn’t quite myself, a bit achey one and off, so thank goodness for a glass of water to swill these down with, and for having them in the house in the first place!

That I remembered the car wasn’t at home… One morning it was absolutely chucking it down.  Instead of getting soaked to the skin, I decided it best to start the day on the right foot by driving, literally round the corner.  We only live a 10 minute walk away from school but what’s the point in getting drenched when you’ve got a car?!  The rain turned to drizzle by the time I left the school and on auto-pilot, I walked right past the car and home again!  Luckily, when I had to go to somewhere, I remembered the car wasn’t at home!!  Phew!

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘egg’ because our daughter is a good ‘egg’ (as in good all-rounder) and we had pancakes!…

How about you?  I’d love to hear about your ‘happy’ in the comments below or tweet me @AllSortsHere using #HighlightsofHappy

Go on, share your happy with me!

Thanks 🙂

Time for a dose of happiness in #HighlightsofHappy blog linky #32 ~ because life’s for the good stuff

Happiness - Time for a dose of happiness and gratitude in #HighlightsofHappy blog linky #32 ~ because life's for the good stuff

Your weekly dose of happiness…

Let’s spread the happiness!

It’s a common phrase isn’t it?…

“Bad things come in 3’s”

or words similar to that!

So, let’s flip it because everyone deserves a little happiness … (you know how I love to spread happiness and turn a negative into a positive with positive thinking !)

Let’s spread that happiness and find 3 things to be grateful for (or even more… I mean, why not?!)

Time For A Dose Of Happiness In #HighlightsofHappy Blog Linky #32 ~ Because Life's For The Good Stuff

In my weekly feature, I look back over my gratitude journal because that’s the great thing about gratitude and using my gratitude journal – it gives me the opportunity to look back and be grateful all over again 🙂  That’s why, in my weekly feature, I look back and bring to you my #HighlightsofHappy.

I round it off with one word that sums up my happy…  why not do the same?  If you’re a blogger, why not share your happy post from the last week or so?  If you’re on instagram, why not tag your happy snap #HighlightsofHappy and link up your pic here?  If you’re on twitter, why not tweet your happy?  If you’re all 3, why not do all 3??  The linky is below. …so what’s been making ME happy?

  • So hubby had a touch of man-flu.  To be fair I could sympathise because I’ve been feeling rough for a couple of weeks… so despite the traditional making fun of our partners who have sneezed and them announcing that it’s flu, I was grateful to be able to get him some proper comfort food!
  • Unfortunately our cat Rosie was run over, which I realise will never be a happy thing to report but the whole point of my blog and this feature is to look at the best of something.  With that in mind, I’m grateful for a few things in the aftermath: our daughter didn’t see any of it, despite it being right near to our front door; our neighbour is a vet, hadn’t yet left for work, heard the commotion and dealt with Rosie for us, taking away a lot of the trauma (we gave her a box of chocolates as a thank you… least we could do); that our cat didn’t suffer, it was clearly a quick departure from this world; that we’ve got lots and lots of happy memories of our cat.  And a few days before this happened, I posted up a short clip of Rosie Posie on instagram  And she’s a very happy cat here…

…and this too…

  • That we kept safe on Storm Doris day!  For non-UK readers, I’m sure that you’re aware of Doris.  She caused havoc and mayhem, we kept our other cat in all day (which she wasn’t too happy about until she sniffed by the back door, felt the air tunnel come through the air block and then nonchalantly reversed back to cosiness!).  Our daughter’s school had to change the normal collection point for safety too.
  • That our daughter got another green letter for ‘getting tops marks in a grammar and punctuation test’.  As I explained in last week’s #HighlightsofHappy post, there is a traffic light system for behaviour and effort, each day each child starts on yellow and it goes from there.  Our girl’s doing so flippin well at school and though some of it might be in the genes, a massive amount is down to interaction and effort in the early years… I’ve said before how we’ve read to our daughter every day of her life (though she now reads to herself or us, or the cat or teddies!)  And we’re really reaping the benefits now.  Or should I say, our daughter is.  So very, very proud.
  • For snuggle time at the end of the week and watching Gnomeo and Juliet.  Haven’t seen it?  Do it!  It’s laugh out loud funny and that’s fine by me!

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘safe’ because Doris wreaked havoc…
