…the day when my little girl does what I once did and starts to read magical books like Harry Potter. Also ‘The Enchanted Wood’ and ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ both by Enid Blyton. Books feed the imagination and one Sunday afternoon many years ago now, I sat down to read ‘The Enchanted Wood’. I got happily lost in the world that Enid Blyton had woven, telling her stories of the friends that went to the wood, Silky, Moonface, Madam Washalot and the rest. If memory serves me right, I read the whole book in one afternoon. My Mum has always enjoyed reading and it certainly wore off on me and my sister.
Since our little bear’s been a few weeks old, I’ve read cloth books to her, then cloth and board books, and now she loves going to the library to choose books to borrow. Although she hasn’t quite got the concept of borrowing them yet and I have to sneak them back, gathering them up after bedtime and popping them through the library letterbox! Maybe I should take one out ‘for me’ and return mine to show her that she gets a stamp and a certificate when she returns her books?!
Back to tonight – I’ve just watched a programme on Daniel Radcliffe playing Harry Potter. I’m so looking forward to the day that she reads the first book and then watches the films with me. I think that, like me, she’ll enjoy reading the books more than watching film adaptations. We’ll see 🙂
My love of reading of course, led me to realise my own dream and publish my own book ‘Diary of a Complicated Pregnancy’ this year. There’s nothing quite like your imagination to make words come alive.
