Time for a dose of happiness in #HighlightsofHappy blog linky #38 ~ because life’s for the good stuff

Your weekly dose of happiness…

Let’s spread the happiness!

It’s a common phrase isn’t it?…

“Bad things come in 3’s”

or words similar to that!

So, let’s flip it because everyone deserves a little happiness … (you know how I love to spread happiness and turn a negative into a positive with positive thinking !)

Let’s spread that happiness and find 3 things to be grateful for (or even more… well, why not?!)

Highlightsofhappy 38 Virtuallyallsorts Blog Linky Positive Thinking Gratitude Focus Happy Happiness Highlights Of Happy Easter Hols Unplug Kick Back

In my weekly feature, I look back over my gratitude journal because that’s the great thing about gratitude and using my gratitude journal – it gives me the opportunity to look back and be grateful all over again 🙂  And that’s what I do here, in my weekly feature, I look back and on my #HighlightsofHappy.

I round it off with one word that sums up my happy…  why not do the same?

If you’re a blogger, why not share your happy post from the last week or so in the linky below?

If you’re on instagram, why not tag your happy snap #HighlightsofHappy and link up your pic in the linky below?

If you’re on twitter, why not tweet your happy with #HighlightsofHappy ?

If you’re all 3, why not do all 3??  The linky is below. (To link your insta happy snap, simply click on your insta pic, copy the url and paste into the linky tool!)

(If you join in with my #HighlightsofHappy community on instagram, I post up my favourite snaps every Monday on instagram.)

…so what’s been making ME happy?

As I type this, our daughter is chilling out after breakfast.  She’s had a busy (but fun-filled) week and this is the start of our Easter hols together.  I’m so ready to down-tools and virtually switch off for a week!  I’m grateful that I recognise when I need to switch off and can take the opportunity too as well.  This week I’ve seen something on social media about working mums not switching off from their smartphones (but the necessary side of using it).  I’m guilty as charged (if guilty is the right word) and there’s a place for that in my life but there’s also a place to step back and enjoy the moments that make life so simple and special 🙂

Our daughter has seen her childminders again this week (2 lovely ladies who work together).  She’s been going to them since she was 9 months old when I returned to work after my mat leave.  I didn’t want to return to work but they work so well together, they just gel and we’ve never had any issues with them.  To say that she adores them (and they her too, I believe!), is not only so reassuring but lovely to see and hear about (she tells us who misbehaves! – out of the children, not the lovely ladies!).  For us, our childminders have been the perfect solution from day 1 and our girl is always drawing them pictures, giving them nick-nacks and has decided to name 2 kittens (when/if we get them!) after them too! Love her!

and this…

For the simple things in life like line-dried washing.

For doughnuts.  The really scrummy ones with sprinkles!  Perfect with a decaf 🙂

For learning more about kinesiology and the meridian lines.

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘hols’ because I’m so ready, we’re so ready to unplug (mostly!) and kick back!  See you on the other side 🙂

How about you?  I’d love to hear about your ‘happy’ in the comments below or tweet me @AllSortsHere using #HighlightsofHappy

Go on, share your happy with me!

Thanks 🙂

…so what’s been making ME happy?

I saw our daughter cheerleading and they did so well!  She absolutely loves dancing and singing, much like any other 7 year old.  And now she wants to do the club again next term, so we’ve put her name and down and will find out in a couple of weeks…  oh and of course she had an ice cream afterwards just because!

For cuddles after tea with my beautiful girl.  I’m very aware that she’s literally growing before my very eyes both emotionally and physically.  So any opportunity that I get, I’m downing tools where possible for cuddles.  I’m savouring these cuddles and feeling the love with every ounce of my soul 🙂

A lovely warm bath… such a simple thing but you know those moments where the temperature is *just* right and you can get straight in.  That!

We’ve got a holiday on the horizon and I’m so ready for a break!  Bliss!

Our girl won a prize in the easter egg decorating comp at school and she was so chuffed!

and this…

On our walk home from school, I saw a penny, picked it up and said I’d pop it in the charity box in the shop.  But we had literally walked past charity shop.  Quick as a flash, our daughter kindly suggested we pop in there instead.  So we did and I was so proud of her generosity.  A penny isn’t much to adults perhaps, but to a 7 year old, it’s money and more importantly, it’s been given to charity.

We squeezed in a trip to the cinema to see Beauty and the Beast at the weekend.  It was either then or May because it’s all booked up!  The local cinema had been refurbed a while ago but none of us had been since.  It’s so nice to be able to recline and made our daughter’s first cinema experience so nice.  She loved the film and of course the popcorn!  I wrote a little fiction piece for The Prompt which was inspired by Beauty and the Beast ~ Ready to bloom again?

After the cinema and a quick bite to eat, we picked up her friend for the much-anticipated sleepover.  They had a brilliant time and it was lovely to hear them giggling away with their ‘midnight’ snacks!

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘cinema’ and I’ve no idea how I’ve managed to choose just one word this week!  But it was the first time going for our girl and we were both so very excited that it’s surely a memory that will stay with us both.  And that’s what matters 🙂

How about you?  I’d love to hear about your ‘happy’ in the comments below or tweet me @AllSortsHere using #HighlightsofHappy

Go on, share your happy with me!

Thanks 🙂

5 Ways To Get More Focus And Get More Zing! ~ #TheZenZing

#TheZenZing 5 Ways To Get More Focus And get More Zing Energising

Welcome back to #TheZenZing where I help you put the zing back into your life.

This time I’m going to give you 5 ways to get more focussed and get more zing!

#TheZenZing 5 Ways To Get More Focus And get More Zing Energising

So, how do you focus on something?

Try writing things down.  Because writing things down makes things visual and helps to prevent overwhelm, which can help to give clarity.
Writing things down can also turn into a brain-storming session and result in new ideas which can give more focus and clarity.

Exercise your brain by doing puzzles or writing in a different style to normal.  Anything that makes your brain work differently can help it to focus more.

It’s often easier to get more focus by sharing ideas, by asking for support and making sure someone is there to push or nudge you along.

Have a goal.  Because remember that with no end goal, we don’t know what we’re working towards and more importantly, we can’t measure our success either.  And that makes it difficult to get more focus…

~
It’s all about #TheZenZing 🙂
~
How do you focus?  I’d love to hear from you.  Please comment (below) or tweet me @AllSortsHere and use the #TheZenZing hashtag.
Thank you 🙂
~
If you’re a blogger, why not join in with my Zen Zing linky by adding a blog post relating to finding your zen?

Share your posts that are positive, happy and full of zing and show us how you put the zing back in your zen!

The linky is open on the 1st of each month and stays open for the month.

Easter Craft ~ How to make an easter egg box

Easter Craft ~ How To Make A Decorate Easter Egg Box

Easter Craft ~ how to make an Easter egg box

We love crafts in our house and Easter always brings out our creativity!

So when our 7 year old’s school ran a competition for the best decorated Easter egg, you can imagine the making and creating that went on…

…and here’s how she made it.  (I say ‘she’ because apart from boiling the eggs, she pretty much did it all by herself!)

Easter Craft ~ How To Make A Decorate Easter Egg Box

You will need:

A standard empty box

Hard-boiled eggs (it depends how many you’d like to decorate!)

Glue ~ pritt-stick type glue is better than gloopy glue because of handling the egg while decorating it… unless you want to look like a decorated easter egg yourself!

Felt-tips and/or paint ~ depending on whether you like really messy or not!

Paper for drawing pictures to cut out and stick on the eggs

Crafty things ~ anything crafty that you’ve got knocking around

~

Get a standard egg box

Easter Craft ~ How To Make A Decorate Easter Egg Box Step 1

Then get the glue

Easter Craft ~ How To make A Decorated Easter Egg Box Step 2

And some green ‘grass’ for paper

Easter Craft ~ How To Make A Decorated Easter Egg Box Step 3

Stick the ‘grass’ anywhere on the outside of the box (the corners work well)

Easter Craft ~ How To Make A Decorated Easter Egg Box Step 5

Pour some glue inside the egg box and stick some yellow ‘nest’ paper inside

Easter Craft ~ How To Make A Decorated Easter Egg Box Result

And there’s your Easter egg box!  (our daughter won a prize for hers!)

~

What do you like to make for Easter crafts?  I’d love to know!  Tell me by commenting below and then tweet me @AllSortsHere.

Thanks 🙂

Virtually All Sorts Of best Blogs 62 Round Up Best Blogs To Read linky

Welcome! This is where I share #AllSortsofBlogs in my pick of the best blogs to read from recent weeks.  Feel free to add any or all of your favourite posts to the linky.  I’ll share all posts across my various social media ~ twitter, pinterest, stumbleupon, g+.

The door’s always open with a new linky starting on the last Friday of the month…

And if you’d like to add my badge, it’s at the bottom of this post.  Thanks.

~

Now on to my best reads this month (as ever, it’s a varied and interesting list – one that may take you back several months with me!):

~

Let’s start with a fantastic review of the book ‘Fantastically Great Women That Changed the World’ from Catherine at The Story Snug.  And what a great review to share for the recent International Women’s Day.

~

Here’s a piece of writing from GahLearner.  It’s like something from a horror film.  I don’t like horror but I loved reading this.  I actually felt victory for the worms!

~

These crafts from John at DadBlogUk look great.  I’ve never thought about trying origami with our daughter but she’s always loved (and continues to love) her crafts, so perhaps we should.

~

What a wonderful happy list this is from Nillu Nasser!  I particularly love turning up at a gig where only the music matters!

~

Shailaja shares some simple ways to stop multi-tasking.  I could definitely do with some help with this at times!

~

And let’s not forget these wonderful linkers who shared their posts in my blog linkys:

For #PositiveThinking Jade from A Positive Parent joined us.

~

For #TheZenZing Amethyst from One Sage Mama linked up

And David from Thinking Thrify also joined in.

~

While for #HighlightsofHappy  Sue from SizzlingTowardsSixty brought us her focus on happiness everyday.  Sounds good to me!

And here’s Leanne’s post from DeepFriedFruit where she asked us what we thought of homework.

~

I hope you enjoyed these as much as I did.

Ready to Bloom Again? ~ #FlashFiction Fiction Inspired by The Rose Inside The Glass dome In Beauty And The Beast

Ready to bloom again?

Ready to Bloom Again? ~ #FlashFiction Fiction Inspired by The Rose Inside The Glass dome In Beauty And The Beast

It was a tale as old as time.  A tale that was stuck in a bubble of time.

Time was standing still but the rose petals fell.

Each time a petal fell, Belle got older and with each petal that fell, a bud appeared in its place, ready to bloom again.  And so it went on, this tale as old as time.

And did Belle retain her youthful looks and beauty, like all good fairytales should?

Well, yes and no.  Inside, she was ageing, like a withered rose.  Outside not a wrinkle appeared.

Eternal youth was not blooming all over this beauty.

But what would happen to the rose petals when the body gave up?  Would it continue to bloom?  Or would it recognise that beauty of knowing when to also give up and stand still in time?

Time would tell.

Depression CAN be beaten ~ my first steps

Depression Can Be Beaten - My First Steps. I Tell You How I Took The First Small steps To Overcome the Depression By Self-help

 Depression CAN be beaten…

Around 10 years ago, a sequence of events in my life resulted in me becoming anxious and it wasn’t too long before I felt unable to cope.  A relationship breakdown, 2 bereavements in quick succession and finally, work was the final straw.  My wonderful doctor listened patiently and diagnosed me with depression.

After a week off work, I was referred to an occupational counsellor.  I had a chat on the Friday and by the following Monday I had ‘jumped’ the NHS waiting list and was talking to a counsellor.  I say ‘jumped’ because the counsellor that I saw was likely the very same one that you would see from a doctor’s waiting list.

Now I’ve never been one to criticise the NHS.  Quite the opposite.  I’ve got nothing but praise for them.  They saw me through a complicated pregnancy and have given my family and friends excellent service, against the odds of low funding and low staffing.

So yes, I will defend the NHS to the hilt but the waiting lists were (and possibly still are) very long for people diagnosed with depression.  ‘Fortunately’, the depression I had was very mild.  If I’d had it more severe, I would’ve been waiting much, much longer to be seen.  And this is dangerous.

Depression Can Be Beaten - My First Steps. I Tell You How I Took The First Small steps To Overcome the Depression By Self-help

Finding the right help

Because once depression gets its claws in and takes hold, it’s hard to bring yourself out.  Very hard.

My doctor was wonderful, advised me to book double slots because he wanted to help… properly.

He told me right from the start that he’d prefer not to give me medication and I will be forever grateful for that.  I didn’t want drugs either but was in such a fog that I’d probably have taken them.

I know there’s a place for them but in my situation, they weren’t the answer.  There are other ways to dig yourself out of the ‘black hole’.

I would never claim that it’s easy to climb out, or even that it’s easy not to slip back in.

Because once you’ve experienced depression, it’s my opinion that you never fully recover.

But you can be aware of your triggers and deal with them swiftly to stop that spiral…

No-one’s immune

What’s important to remember about mental health is that anyone of any age can experience it, at any time.  Put simply – no one, but no one is immune.

And that includes children.  Emily Palmer has produced a great little book called ‘Scrambled Heads’ aimed at guiding children through mental health.  You can read the review of ‘Scrambled Heads’ here.

When I was going through it and recovering, I used a great book that for me at the time was indispensable – 50 Things You Can Do Today To Beat Depression
by Paul Vincent.   There will be a review coming soon.

My point is

My point is that there’s help out there.  Help that gives your brain a long-term chance, rather than a cheap plaster that keeps coming off.

If I may add that if you’re reading and you’re on medication for depression, and if it works for you – well that’s great for you.

However, my personal experience has taught me that a natural, self-help approach works best (or at least it did for me).  I will cover these methods in my series ‘Depression CAN be beaten…’ – subscribe so that you don’t miss it… use the opt-in form below or in the sidebar.

How do you deal with depression?  Or how do you help someone you know to deal with depression?  I’d love to hear from you.  Comment below or tweet me @AllSortsHere

Time for a dose of happiness in #HighlightsofHappy blog linky #36 ~ because life’s for the good stuff

Time For A Dose Of Happiness In Highlights Of Happy Blog Linky 36 Amazing Assembly Performance
It's time for a dose of happiness in #HighlightsofHappy 35 blog linky because life's for the good stuff. We look back on the week with gratitude

Your weekly dose of happiness…

Let’s spread the happiness!

or words similar to that!

(If you join in with my #HighlightsofHappy community on instagram, I post up my favourite snaps every Monday on instagram.)b

…so what’s been making ME happy?

Well it’s been an amazing week, truly it has…

After a hospital appointment, I was discharged which, believe me, was an immense relief!  A dear friend is not in such a good position and that’s really made me stop and be in the moment.  I make no apologies for how corny that might sound.  Because I’ve savoured every single good feeling I’ve had and hope to remain in this ‘in the moment’ mindset. Savour the good times people 🙂

The after school cheerleading club is doing a little performance for the parents and carers.  Our daughter came out of the club this week clutching a slip of paper with details and I’m SO looking forward to it!

I went to see our girl’s class assembly and was so very proud of her doing a little solo introduction.  She had been practicing her lines but she didn’t make it clear to me that she was actually introducing the class topics at the start of the assembly.  Her voice carried very well and she remembered the words of the little intro. 🙂

We saw my grandparents, our daughter told them all about what she’s been doing at school, about her excitement for her up-coming sleepover and well everything in between!

For playing the recorder with my daughter.  Yes, it came with a silent apology to the neighbours (!) and a *slight* cringe as she didn’t quite have her fingers fully over the holes at times… but that’s all a part of the fun hey!

I had time to myself for pretty much a whole afternoon while hubby and our girl went on a little shopping adventure.  I curled up on the sofa in the sunshine like a cat and stayed there for a very long time 🙂

~

So that’s my happy and my happy word is ‘amazing’ because looking over my gratitude journal, it’s literally full on every page.  That tells me that a whole load of happy has been going on.  And my mood and mindset totally reflects that.  I make no apologies for being happy and I never will 🙂

How about you?  I’d love to hear about your ‘happy’ in the comments below or tweet me @AllSortsHere using #HighlightsofHappy

Go on, share your happy with me!

Thanks 🙂

Positive Thinking ~ Choose to be optimistic; it feels better

Positive Thinking Choose To Be Optimistic For Your Wellbeing And Mental health

This blog is all about turning any negative into a positive.

And this linky is all about positive thinking – each month I focus on an inspirational, motivational, positive quote.

This month, remember to…

Choose to be optimistic ~ it feels better

We all benefit from a little bit of optimism… or a whole lot of optimism! There’s no limits to how much you can have.  And however much optimism you choose to have in your life, don’t let anyone take the positive outlook away from you.

You know why?

Because it does feel better!

I’d love to hear from you. Tweet me @AllSortsHere using the hashtag #PositiveThinking.

Let’s create a virtual wave of positivity!

#PositiveThinking is my monthly blog linky.

Link up any blog post with a positive and happy theme (and it’d be great if you could copy my badge below into your post).  Perhaps your positive thought could be connected to a goal you have in mind, something funny you’ve heard or something funny you’ve seen.  If it’s got a PositiveThinking theme, it works for this linky.  Old or new posts, it doesn’t matter – link up as many as you like.

The linky door is always open.

~

Also join me on twitter.  Tweet anything positive and/or promote your positive blogpost (the one you link up!) with #PositiveThinking and include a direct tweet to me @AllSortsHere… I’ll share by retweeting.

Let’s get the positive vibrations going good and strong 🙂

And while you’re here, last month A Positive Parent linked up to PositiveThinking.  Here’s their link if you missed it…
