This time 4 years ago…

This time 4 years ago we were approaching the final furlong of our pregnancy journey.  We were about to have our final ‘welfare’ scan.  Due to placenta praevia (low-lying placenta), we were having more scans than normal.

This time 4 years ago the final scan resulted in us booking a planned caesarean because the consultant said the placenta ‘lip’ hadn’t moved quite enough for him to be happy with the 10 cms dilation needed to allow for a ‘natural’ birth.  A c-section it was.  This suited us.

This time 4 years go I was on the brink of starting my maternity leave.

This time 4 years ago, myself and hubby were getting close to embarking on what would be the single scariest moment of our entire lives.

This time 4 years ago, I was about to experience the biggest emotional rollercoaster known to me.  Ever.  And that’s coming from someone who has experienced mild depression.  Trust me, this rollercoaster had no height restrictions.  It had no sign at the start of the road giving a price.  There was no disclaimer and most certainly no safety harnesses.

This time 4 years ago, I was about to have my eyes rudely opened to pre-eclampsia and hellp syndrome.

4 years later, my crusade along with so many other women, to raise crucial awareness of these conditions continues.
