TV: Could you live without it?…

TV Could you live without it?!

When I had a social life (Before Child!), I didn’t need a TV.  When I had money (Before Child!) to have a social life, I didn’t need a TV.  It sounds pretty obvious…

Well yes it does but it all happened purely by accident.  My intention hadn’t been to go cold turkey with television.  But when I moved house and didn’t get around to setting up my TV, and then discovered it wouldn’t work, cold turkey I went.

It didn’t bother me in the slightest because my team at work were an uber social bunch.  Rare was the occasion that at least a few of us didn’t meet up after work for a game or 2 of pool.  Even after our midnight finishes (due to shift work), we still met up.  They were happy days indeed.  I had money in the bank and  I had decided that if I had spare cash in the bank, I would use it, I would enjoy it and I wouldn’t make any escuses as to why I couldn’t go out and live my life. I would be positive and be happy.  And that was that.

So you see, I didn’t need a TV because I didn’t have time for one.  The first thing I did in those days when I walked into my house was to flick the radio on or my ipod on shuffle.

(And. I. Read.  Well, when my social life allowed it!)

So when Sara at mumturnedmom asked the question ‘TV: Could you live without it?’ I thought, ‘yes I could and I have!’

Had she asked the same question about music, well that would have been an entirely different answer… and a different blog post!

(Did I mention that I had a portable DVD player to fall back on?! )

Pssst… I really did!

  1. I think that TV has a different place in our lives at different times, and yes, when I was in my twenties, single and working hard I watched very little 🙂 Having said that, I do love TV and wouldn’t want to give up my favourite shows! And, I know I’d have a mutiny on my hands if I took it away from the kids completely 🙂 Thanks so much for linking to #ThePrompt x

    • Yes we do, of sorts. We stream. Cancelled sky just last month. We weren’t using it (no time between hubby and I) and couldn’t justify the extra outgoing. When I do watch something I try to make sure it’s comedy or something interesting!
