Look what we’ve got…

~

We’re all entitled to our wallowing time

Our “what if” moments, waiting for a sign.

But when we’re done, all our tears subsided,

It’s time to be positive and open-minded.

~

Then we should focus, be grateful… for what?

That we’re here, in the ‘now’; look what we’ve got…

Each other, united, come together as one,

There’s a long way to go but for now we have won.

A SPECTATOR’S VIEW part 1

John put his briefcase down, lit a cigarette and pulled out his mobile phone. It was time to seal a deal before the train came. He had dealt with George before so there would be no need for formalities. Taking a sip of the tasteless takeaway tea, he tapped on his phone to speed dial his client on hands-free.

George. John Barnes here. Morning to you. Have you had any other quotes for the refurbishment yet?”

Ah John, morning. Well yes, as it happens I have had a very competitive quote from a newly established company,” George replied. “All the employees have reputable backgrounds themselves and I have to say that I am very keen to speak to them again.” George knew that John would not like his answer.

I see. That’s all well and good George,” came the reply, “but perhaps you should ask yourself if you can trust a new company with no proven track record. By that I mean can you risk spending thousands of pounds of your company’s profit on a refurbished office that will need maintenance work sooner rather than later?” John asked his client with a feeling of self-assurance.

George was not in the mood for John’s manipulation this morning. He had a train to catch and was ready to sit down and read his newspaper before switching his laptop on. To this end he decided to play it cool with John.

Perhaps you should ask yourself if a new company manned by people with a vast knowledge and experience should be any less worthy of this contract than your lot who have been in the business for years and tend to have blinkers on?”

John could tell this was not going to be an easy deal to clinch. As he came back with his reply, George saw him standing at the end of the platform, all hunched over in the cold.

I understand what you’re saying George”, John stressed, rubbing his eyes with a clenched fist.

But do you really John?” George asked, interrupting calmly and firmly. “Can you honestly say that you think your deal would beat any other company’s worth its salt?”

John tensed up and rubbed his nose and said, “The quote I have given you is reflective of the materials and tools to be used.”

Liar”, thought George, “I bet you couldn’t look me in the eye and say that.”

With a pregnant pause John continued…

Valentines Day ~ a poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

Valentines Day Valentine's poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting #writing blog linky

Valentines Day

As I bring to the fore all the reasons to smile,

I see the good life, no reason to wallow,

Well, why would I wallow, why would I moan?

Reasons to be grateful, I’m not alone,

I don’t need a reason like Valentine’s Day

To feel the love around me each day,

Am I lucky?  Maybe. But some say you create

Your own happiness, and when you find your soul mate,

You just know deep in your heart,

Deep in your soul,

As long as they’re with me,

I know I’ll be ‘whole’.
