I created an unboxing vlog because Morse Toad very kindly gave me a discount for the purpose of this review and I chose the ‘Awesome Box’ for our daughter.

The reason being that we love to be positive and use empowering words in our house (and I secretly blatantly knew she would share her chocolatey stash with me us!).   I chose to add a picture of her with her cousins and this was great value at an extra £1.  That in itself is awesome, to add an even more personal touch and sending a strong message that they are all awesome.  When you order, the website says that you can take the picture out and pop it in a frame.  I thought that would be a lovely and unique touch and was intrigued to see how this would work.

~

When we received the parcel, this was my favourite feature.  You could easily slip the picture out of the box and pop it in a frame!  What an awesome idea…

The packaging appears to be sturdy enough to drop through a high letterbox without breaking up.  And there’s even a note on the box to keep the package out of the sun!  Once opened, there is  plastic cover that slots easily over the chocolate pieces.

Mine (or our daughter’s!) package arrived within 2 days of placing the order (which was done in the evening) and here’s her favourite part of it:

The picture of her with her cousins, the letters and hearts and the really yummy chocolate!   (all of it then really!)

When she saw the box with the picture inside, she was really excited and said she wanted to put the picture in a frame next to her bed.  How lovely!  She read the words and I took a moment to reaffirm to her that is awesome, so are her cousins and so are we!  Keen to have some chocolate, she took the sturdy plastic cover away (which was easy to do) and pointed out 2 pieces to have.

We both decided it was really smooth, yummy and most importantly, chocolatey!  Highly recommended! (and Daddy agreed when it was his turn to sample his pieces.

My favourite part:

Watching our daughter’s face when she opened the box to see the picture, letting her read the message and telling her that she IS awesome!

And also showing her that she could take the picture out.

Some other good points to note:

The chocolate does not contain alcohol and is kosha accredited. It does not contain eggs, and is gluten free.  This is good, quality chocolate and I’ll bet that not many messages stay in tact for long.  If they do, someone has very good willpower!

What I would change:

If I could change one thing about the packaging, it would be to put the chocolate pieces in a ‘rigid’ tray within the box.  By that I mean something to keep the pieces in their rightful places.  Not only would this stop the remaining pieces from rattling around, it would keep the message making sense (in the early stages when not too many pieces are gone!)

But really, this is a great value-for-money product.  I can see this will become very popular once word gets around.

Panda Vita Organic Baobab powder ~ Review & discount code

Panda Vita contacted me to ask if I would like to review their organic Baobab powder and I immediately agreed because anything that is 100% natural and unprocessed has got to be a good thing.

panda-vita-tick-nutritional-food-supplement-natural-wellbeing-discount-code

Firstly, I was impressed with the packaging.  It came in a modest sized envelope which not only means less waste of course.  But it also means I wasn’t battling with unnecessary parcel tape to get to my ‘loot’.

The envelope has a rip off seal at the top but then to keep the powder fresh, you have a zip-lock type seal which is a fantastic idea.

As the PandaVita website says, Baobab powder is a tasty and nutritious powder that dehydrates naturally inside the baobab fruit. The fruit grows on magnificent trees in AFRICA. It has a delightful citrusy flavour and is an excellent source of Vitamin C, Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium. It also a high fibre content.

On opening the packet, I set to, making a drink.  I was intrigued what it tasted like in water alone, and added the correct mix to the water.  At first, I wasn’t sure how quickly, if at all, the small lumps would dissolve.  But I’m pleased to say they were gone rapidly with a good ‘whisky’ type mix with a normal teaspoon.

panda-vita-nutritional-food-supplement-natural-wellbeing

So, with some trepidation, I sipped my drink.  I say ‘trepidation’ because after seeing the small lumps, I was warey that it may be quite powdery on my tongue.  And you know what?  It wasn’t!  The citrussy taste came through quite strongly (but not overpowering) and this may have taken the texture away.  I tried levelling the teaspoons the next time and sure enough, not so strong and actually very pleasant.

I didn’t actually find time to do any baking with the baobab powder but can imagine that it would be a nice addition and give any recipe a little ‘twist’.

I did find time to sprinkle a little on my daily cereal (oh how I love my breakfast!).  With a bit of a stir, I enjoyed the twist in the taste and I liked knowing that I was giving my day a kick start with the baobab.  Great feeling!

While I can’t say that I noticed my energy levels increase (I may have to give it more time), I can say that I recommend you try this organic powder.  At £4.99 for a 50g packet, I’d say it’s worth the money and I’d be prepared to use it daily.  And Panda Vita are very kindly giving you a 15% discount by using VAS15 (no expiry date).  You can shop their range of products here.

Are you looking for the perfect gift?… (and a giveaway with a difference!)

So, you’re looking for the perfect gift?  That special something for that special someone with a little bit of ‘something’ different?  A little bit special?  A little bit unique?
Rest up your feet and look no more.  Because I have the perfect present for that special child in your life…
and yes, as the picture below says, I have a giveaway with a difference!
message-in-a-bottle-discount-code-giveaway-personalised-book-for-children-blueberry-and-pie-publishing-launch-team
You can read my review here, and you can see my unboxing of my Message in a Bottle parcel below…
In the unboxing I was so excited to find the postcards that you see in the picture above.  I love that they’ve got the airmail mark around the edge because that’s the main theme of the book – the lovable bird called Kiki HAS to get the personalised message to the special someone, even if that means travelling far and wide to do so!
~
I was even more excited when I turned the postcards over and on the back I saw a discount card for 15% off the book!
And then I thought I would give my lovely readers a treat.  “How wonderful would it be for them to be able to enter a giveaway to win one of these postcards through the post?” I thought.   (Imagine a postie dressed up as Kiki the bird for authenticity!) WITH a discount code to use.  At the time of this post being published, the code can be used in time for Christmas, but really it’s ideal for anytime of the year, for any occasion!
 ~
So yes, the review post has 15% off for the first 10 ‘grabbers’ and this post is a giveaway for a different discount code which involves you giving me your postal address (to be given when the winners are drawn) and then 4 of you receiving a postcard with the discount code on the back!  Wonderful!  As with all my giveaways, I’d like to point out that your mailing address (and of course your email address) will not be passed on to any 3rd party.  That info is in the T&Cs (see giveaway below) but because this is a giveaway with a difference, I felt the need to state it here too 🙂
~
The giveaway is open to UK entrants and ends at 12am on 21sh November 2016. Good luck to you!
 ~

Just for fun, which postcard would you like to receive – the owl or Kiki the bird? I say ‘just for fun’ because there’s no guarantee you will get your chosen one – but I’ll see what I can do! I’d love to know!  Please comment below or tweet me @AllSortsHere

Back to the drawing board ~ when your plans go off course

Our daughter was busy at her desk, pencil in hand with an old diary open.  And that moment in time brought to mind the phrase ‘back to the drawing board’.  Which inspired the following poem.  It made me consider whether our daughter’s life is already mapped out and what influence she/we could have on it…
 back-to-the-drawing-board-plans-goals-fate-life-path-motivation-focus
 Back to the drawing board
When you’ve got a plan that goes off course,
Can you feel that pull?  It’s life’s energy force;
It’s pulling you here but you want to go there,
Do you dig in your heels like a stubborn mare?
~
Do you accept your ‘fate’, if that’s what it’s called,
Or do you refuse to ever be stalled?
You’ve got your dreams, you’ve worked hard night and day,
You’ll reach your end goals, whatever they say…
~
You push yourself forward, you push more and more,
You hear the ‘knock’ at opportunity’s door,
You open it wide with a crash and a clout,
“Who’s there?” goes the next line, “it’s me, so watch out!”
~
Cos that’s what you need to succeed, be your best,
To rise up and up, to be there with the rest;
You need grit, discipline, you need a game plan,
A timeline and goals – to shout out “I can!”
~
“I can and I will,” said again and again,
So you never give up, it’s not ‘if’ but ‘when’…
‘When’ you’ve got support at your east and your west,
Motivation and focus to strive, be your best.
When you’ve got ambition at your south and your north,
You find your path to follow, to conquer, go forth.
~
When the signposts move, the path changes for you,
The lights will synch up. Wait.  There’s your cue.
The red, the amber, the green, go, go, go!
Ease off the brake, indicate, don’t go slow.
~
When you’ve got a plan that goes off course,
There’s a reason for that; it’s life’s energy force.
It’s pulling you there but you want to go here,
Do your thing, be yourself and get into gear!

Pull up a colouring chair!

What is one of our daughter’s favourite things to do?
Well, one look at her desk will give you a big clue.  Because there are several recycled containers full of pencil crayons, felt tips
and wax crayons.

colouring-chair-main-blog-pic-imagination-destress-relax-organised-stationery-create-make-do-parenting

She ran out of pencil cases and recycled food punnets were there to save the day.
Her desk is her upcycled cot and so there’s lots of room for her colouring paraphernalia.  Give our girl a colouring book or print out her favourite character of the moment to colour in and she’s happy!
~

I find it fascinating that children love to colour – given it’s therapeutic benefits of relaxation and de-stressing.
Children don’t have the distractions of the endless jobs to do round the house and practical things to do that we have, do they?  And until recently, it was much more acceptable for a child to colour than an adult.  Expected even.
~

When our daughter started to run out of the recycled food punnets and pencil cases, she got creative and turned her desk chair into something of a pencil case!
~

She got paper plates, stuck them to the chair and used the slot in the back of the chair to turn it into something of a pen holder!  Then she got sellotape, wrapped it around the four legs and hung highlighters off there!  You certainly can’t knock her being resourceful or thinking outside the box!
colouring-chair-blog-insert-imagination-destress-relax-organised-stationery-create-make-do-parenting

Now, if we need a pen and can’t find one, we know where to look!

Next time your child runs out of pencil cases, pull up a chair!…

I’ve mentioned before that our garden is very small and when we moved house, it was in Autumn, so we didn’t spend any time out there.

When spring sprung, we decided to pretty it up and painted the wall.  It might not look very tidy but we had loads of fun painting it and it really brightens up the garden, in fact the whole back area of our block of houses.

It also inspired this poem…

Another Brick in the Wall

When your garden is dull and really quite small,

You can pretty it up, let’s start with the wall!

You can paint it all over, in one block of red,

Or paint random bricks different colours instead!

You can each take a turn with yellow, red or pink,

Whatever the pattern, it looks great, don’t you think?

It’s a breath of fresh air, it’s a cheerful sight,

On a Summer’s day and an Autumnal night.

It’s brightened our garden, our haven, our place,

To chill our boots and to slow down the pace.
