Do you read, listen or ‘see’? ~ poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

#WonderfulWorldofWriting news writing poem blog

And here is the news…

Do you read the news

For worldwide views?

Or do you choose to

Follow simply to amuse?

Do you read it?

Do you listen?

Or do you ‘see’?

Or do you tend to ignore it, just like me?!

Do you follow world news to see who’s boss?

Or celeb TV for the latest goss?

Both versions of ‘news’ make me a bit cross,

They smooth over the rough giving us the ‘gloss’…

News paints a picture for me and you,

Covering imperfections, but is it true?

With the ‘touching up’ it should be clear

But instead we’re given political smear…

It’s called editing, spinning,

It’s very cleverly used,

But before we know it,

Boy, are we confused?

But use your own free will,

Make your own mind up though,

Hear both sides or better still,

Just go with the flow…

  1. Thought provoking poem Carol, one of your best yet I think 🙂 I don’t watch the news either, or go in for celeb goss. Hubby reads about the important stuff and educates me which is the way I like it!

  2. I do a bit of everything. I skim, I check the latest, I try to see beyond the surface. But generally, I know that what we would like to do to see this world change is unlikely to ever happen. So I just go with the flow…xx

  3. Brilliant, sums up the dilemmas of reading and absorbing news and ‘news’. I have to admit I am on the avoid end of the spectrum, I read the headlines and my husband tends to tell me about interesting stuff, but most of the news is just so sad and depressing that I don’t read it! Thanks so much for sharing with #ThePrompt x

  4. I like the way you’ve suggested news is segregated between celebrity gossip and world events. Great point to make. I’m intruiged that youre not the olmny person participatingin this linky to mention spin. It seems the darker arts of PR are no longer as effective as they once were. We’re all becoming immune to it. #theprompt
