How to enhance your home with a wall mural

How to enhance your home with a wall mural

In 6 months or so we’re going to redecorate and we’re going for a feature wall.  So we’re going to have 3 walls in the same colour and one wall in another colour to complement (or contrast – we haven’t decided yet) with the other walls.

I did this in a previous house, before I met hubby and before our daughter came along.  By doing simply doing this, I created depth, tone and warmth (despite using a blue tone. Yes, really!).

Now that I’ve seen the range of wall murals from WallSauce…  I think our feature wall could contain a slice of the Big Apple!  Just imagine chilling out with a view of the Manhattan skyline at morning, noon or night.  Or having a famous bridge span adorning an area of your home!  Wow!  My personal favourite is the New York Cityscape at sunset mural.  Those lovely tones would look amazing when the late afternoon sun comes streaming through my windows in summer, and winter too.

A slice of the Big Apple!

Fancy a slice of the Big Apple with a wall mural in your home?  Fancy away! Get them here.

A simple change can really enhance your home.

While you’re looking, consider how a simple change can really enhance your home.  The beauty of a wall mural of course, is that you don’t have to go the whole hog on the whole room.  And if you choose a colourful design, you can opt for accessories such as lamps and cushions to pick out the colours in your chosen design.  It’s an easy, peasy way to update an area of your home.  Your haven.

Which is your favourite design?

Considering car seat safety for your child

Considering car seat safety for your child

considering Car Seat Safety For Your Child Road Safety Protect

* Sponsored post

I remember very well the first time our now 8 year old daughter ever went in her car seat.  Born 3 weeks early, she looked tiny in it; she was tiny in it.  And she looked vulnerable but we knew that she was as safe and protected as possible.

I also remember buying her car seat.  We did our fair share of research online first and found there is a lot of helpful information  about how to maintain your car and also car seat safety.  Our car seat came as part of a travel system and as well as choosing a frame that collapsed and ‘popped up’ as quickly and easily as possible (nobody wants to be faffing with a baby and a complicated pushchair!), we made sure we were happy with her car seat.

Our choice was best for us; it came with a base that you could leave strapped into the car, yet was also secure and safe, and lightweight too.  Being able to lift her out of the car seat base while still in the seat while she slept was a sanity-saver!

The seat clipped in with a firm ‘clunk’ into the base and the seat belt fitted securely around the chassis.

Every parent wants the peace of mind knowing that they’ve done everything possible to protect their child while on the move on today’s busy road, don’t they?

Most car seats today have a way of ensuring the harness is secure while not too loose or tight.  Ours had a visible gauge for this too.  The little window turned green when the tension was just right.  Another box ticked.  And let’s face it, when it comes to the safety of our children, we want all those boxes ticked…

5 ways to have fun with your cat

5 Ways To Have Fun With Your Cat And Your Wellbeing Whiskas

5 ways to have fun with your cat

Our house is generally a very chilled out house and I honestly believe one reason for that is our cat.

She’s such a snuggly cat who loves to sit on your lap and when you walk through the door after a busy day, she’s usually there waiting to rub against your legs, purring away.

And when you finally sit down at night, she’s jumping up to curl on your lap.

(or our daughter’s car seat, as this photo shows!)

5 Ways To Have Fun With Your Cat And Your Wellbeing Whiskas

And that’s lovely because it means I can’t get up to ‘just quickly’ do that thing!  I can only give a head scratch and indulge in the dulcet tones of her purring contentedly.

Three years after getting our cat, I struggle to remember what it was like without her around.  But what I’m sure of is that she helps bring so much calm to our house.  Animals feel stress too.  Usually off us and that’s why having fun with your cat is just as important as them having the right cat or kitten food to replace all that energy.  Good food and good fun are an integral part of their wellbeing.

And our cat certainly knows how to have fun!

Here are 5 ways we have fun with our cat (helped along very well by some fab cat toys by the Natural Pet Toy Company):

  1. We use something long and light to dangle in front her eyes, bringing it quickly out of her reach when she moves towards it.  Our 7 year old loves playing this game with her.  A ribbon or shoe lace work as well as anything.  Chances are, they’ll jump up to chase it around.  It’s great exercise for them, and fun to watch.  You can turn it into a kind of ‘dance off’!
  2. Roll something along the floor and we watch her go after it!  We often hide a treat inside to make it even more fun for her.
  3. Give her a good scratch and belly rub.  It’s so much fun when our cat ‘leans’ in for more rubs and scratches.  It’s like a tickle-fest!
  4. Using the same toy as the ‘dangle game’, we drag it along the floor in front of her, pulling it away from her.  She loves to chase it and tries to grab it with her paws!
  5. And when we’ve all had plenty of fun and games, we settle down for a chill on a comfy chair, encouraging her onto whichever lap she chooses (usually the 7 year olds actually – they’ve got a special bond!).  We watch some TV or just chill out and chat or listen to music.  Or maybe do some reading while she cat naps.  I’ve been known to join her for a cheeky cat nap too…!  It’s just as much fun and just as important to chill out together this way.  Though I don’t think I’d fit in the home-made cat ‘house/bed’ that our daughter made for her (below)…

If you’re still stuck for ideas, here are some other extracurricular activities to consider…

 Review ~ Prestige Flowers

Who doesn’t love to receive flowers?  I know that I do!  They lift my mood, make me smile and brighten my home.  I also like to give them occasionally to say thank you, thinking of you or happy birthday.  Flowers just speak volumes don’t they?
When I arrived home one day, I had a ‘sorry we missed you card’ posted through the letterbox.  And my shoulders dropped a little because I had been expecting a bouquet of fresh flowers to be delivered from Prestige Flowers, and I hadn’t been able to stay in to take collection of them.

As I read the card, expecting to see that the courier would try again or maybe even to collect them from the local post office the next working day, I gave a little ‘whoop’.  They had been left by our back door.  Sure enough, an exciting looking box was sitting there patiently by my back door… and a bemused cat (our cat I might add!)

Book Review ~ ‘Outdoor Things to do’ #BoredomBuster

Anti Boredom Book Of Brilliant Outdoors Things To Do Andy Seed Bloomsbury

Book review ~ ‘Outdoor Things To Do’ book

The most obvious point of The Anti-boredom Book of Brilliant Outdoor Things To Do book is that it encourages children to go outside.
That’s one box ticked.
But what if you haven’t got a particularly big or ‘gardeny’ garden?  You know, the ‘backyard’ type garden that is concrete and doesn’t lend itself to much adventure?  The garden without any grass.  Well, there’s always the local park.  Sometimes though, it’s nice to just hang out at home and potter around isn’t it?
And for days like that, this book also lends a hand!
How?  Because it’s also got a section on indoors rainy day activities.
Another box ticked!

 Book review ~ ‘Clever Tykes’

Clever Tykes storybooks aim to inspire positivity, resourcefulness and enterprising behaviour in their target market of 6-10 year olds.  And let’s cut to the chase because in my opinion, they all do just that.  Back in January 2017 every primary school in the UK was gifted a set of these books which is fantastic and means that Clever Tykes books have the potential to empower a lot of our children… the future generations in fact.  No mean feat but utterly possible with this little collection!
