Flash fiction

He had started off with good intentions.  But the world had changed and so had the company; into a big, money-greedy corporate.

No matter.  The time had come anyway.  He had made his choice to retire.  And there he was, a figure in his likeness, on top of his retirement cake.  Complete with the old tools of the trade.  No machinery.  The nuts and icing sugar looked authentic, just like the layers of salt plains he had worked on but he would still leave with a bitter taste in his mouth…

  1. Nice job with the prompt! Sorry it too me a while to get over here. I’m trying to read them all this week, but traveling makes it harder. This really captures the image.

  2. Carol, Good story and very realistic. People today are fortunate to even be allowed to retire before they’re let go, sometimes for flimsy reasons. It’s difficult to live on retirement pay. It’s good they have IRA’s these days. Well written. 🙂 —Susan
