Review ~ mobile phone sports arm band from the Caro_e_ range
I’ve recently started the Couch to 5k running app again. I say ‘again’ because I completed it before, several years ago, and successfully ran the Race for Life off the back of it. (for non-UK readers, Race for Life is an event where you can walk, run or even dance to raise money for research into beating cancer.) So there I was, in a position to complete 5k in 45 minutes and then the school holidays came along and then I got bronchitis which stopped any running in its tracks… appropriate use of words there!
Basic running gear
I’ve never really been a runner, always preferring swimming. But running is easier for me in the respect of only having to slip my leggings, sports bra and top on, grab my phone for my music and pop my trainers on and I’m off out of my door into the fresh air. Once I’m out there, I love it. And once you’ve got your basic running gear, it’s free!
So that’s that main reason I told myself to like running… and now I do!
As I said, I definitely need music to encourage me on and I was the only one who would be holding my phone while running, in my sweaty hand. Nice! But not anymore… I was kindly given a Caro_e_ SPORT running armband to try out and review. Caroline Einhoff is a fashion blogger and her range is available at Hunkemoller.com. I’ve seen similar armbands before and have been envious of them versus the running along in my sweaty hand scenario!
When it arrived, the armband was as well packaged as you’d expect it to be, in a padded envelope. And the cardboard mount kept it in place very well. I love the little quote on the back “The best project you’ll ever work on is you!”. Mine was a nice ‘rhubarb’ red colour. Good start.
My galaxy smartphone slotted into very easily to the actual holder, with the various ‘universal’ slots lining up nicely with the headphone jack (not very techy here!) The phone felt very secure in there and the plastic cover for the screen looked like it would protect the front very well, though I’ve yet to run in rain! I was really impressed that the plastic didn’t stop the touch screen functionality of my phone at all. I’d imagine that there’s nothing more annoying than having to take your phone out of the holder to work it!
When I’d got the straps to a comfortable position so that my skin didn’t pinch, it stayed on my arm with no slipping up and down. A really useful feature of the armband is a slot for your key, which is always something I’ve struggled with. Having no zips on my leggings and preferring not to wear a hoody, I’ve always gone back to ‘sweaty hands’ scenario! The slot worked perfectly and I’ll be interested to see how much it stretches over use, and therefore how secure my key remains.
So, off I went on my run (8 minutes of running in total, with the app talking me through), I had to adjust my earphones lead a few times but this is more due to my dodgy earphones! After 30 minutes of movement, the armband didn’t slip, didn’t pinch, didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. In fact, I was really impressed that I wasn’t desperate to get it off like I thought I would be, which suggests it’s good quality material which expands with the heat and movement of your arm. Very clever.
Worth the money?
How long the velcro stays ‘sticky’ will be interesting to see but I’ll gladly buy a replacement when the time comes. That’s how impressed I am with this running armband. The RRP for the UK is £12 which is excellent value for money.
If I could change anything…
If I could change anything, it would be to make the material machine washable, given that it’s for running. But I’m guessing you could lose comfort and quality if the material was changed.
This Limited Edition armband has given me a way to run to music/my app more easily and has therefore given me the motivation I needed to keep on running!

Do you use a running armband? If not, I’d recommend this one!
