Share The Joy with a little courtesy
Kindness is something that I really try to embed into my every day life. And also into our 7 year old’s daily life (not forgetting hubby too!). We’re only human and so some days take more effort, more thinking about.
I’ve been following The Kindness Calendar from MakeTodayHappy and I find it works really well to focus on one thing which I then write about in my Share the Joy post, and I link up to the #ShareTheJoyLinky. This week, my act of kindness that stood out was…
‘Be extra courteous in traffic.’
I don’t know about you but my patience is often tested to the limit in rush-hour traffic. We usually drive the route, quite likely seeing the same vehicles driven by the same people without realising! Part of my daily journey involves a single track road with passing places. I know this road like the back of my hand; I know where the dips are, where the pot holes are, where to slow down in order to see over the brow of the hill if there’s anything coming the other way.
Occasionally there will be a driver who doesn’t know the road as well as me, or perhaps they’re used to the road and are just in a rush, pushing through no matter what. Of course, when you pass a passing place, it’s courtesy to wave an acknowledgement of thanks to the other driver. Call it an un-official highway code.
Not just because of the kindness calendar, but generally I think I’m quite a patient and courteous driver. I’ve always had the attitude that there’s no point in rushing because that causes accidents. Yes the flip side is true: that going too slowly and being too hesitant causes accidents but I think this is where ‘patience’ comes in. Being courteous is free and easy though. Being extra courteous is being more mindful.
Are you following any sort of ‘kindness’ calendar? Are you a courteous driver? Or if you don’t driver, are you a patient passenger? I’d love to hear. Please do leave a comment below or tweet me @AllSortsHere.
