Share your #BrilliantBooks January 2019

I’ve always loved to read, have been brought up around books and have passed on this love of books and reading to our daughter. And there’s the key. For the past (almost) decade, I haven’t made the time to read, always putting some else’s needs first (rightly or wrongly – there’s a discussion for a separate blog post!).

#BrilliantBooks a place to share your reads and reviews blog linky

In January 2018 I decided to start reading regularly again. I wanted to give my eyes a break from allll the screens and enjoy some down-time. Some time where I could dive into another world for 5 paragraphs, 5 chapters, 5 minutes…

I also took up a book reading challenge last year through GoodReads and am doing the same this year. Last year’s challenge was to egg me on to keep reading (I love updating my book with ‘read’!).

All this reading gave me the idea to share the books that I’ve loved. There won’t be full-on reviews, just a personal view of why I enjoyed a book. What better way to share my reads than in a blog linky for everyone else to join in with?

#BrilliantBooks was born. If you’ve blogged about your favourite read, share it here! There aren’t really any rules; it doesn’t need to be a recent read or a recent post. Just a book, any book, any genre, any author. I think you get the idea! And it doesn’t have to be an actual book either, e-books are welcome. I’m not saying that I’ll read every single post but I will share every single post on various social media. If you’d like to be featured next month, link up and share each post on twitter tagging it @AllSortsHere #BrilliantBooks . The person who has shared the most tweets posts with the hashtag will be featured in the next linky post which will be the last Friday of every month.

And let’s not forget instagram… link up your picture and use the hashtag #BrilliantBooks . Just copy the url of the actual picture into the linky tool below.

Share my badge (see bottom of the post and my sidebar) or link back to my blog and let’s go!

Step into the cafe ~ poem

It’s time this poem was shown the light of day again… inspired by a cafe menu made by our little girl, then about 3/4 (now 6 !)

step into the cafe poem creation parenting

Step into the cafe

~

Step into the café,

And pull up a pew.

There’s something for me,

There’s something for you.

~

It’s all listed here,

From left to right.

Just choose what you fancy,

If you’d like a quick bite.

~

Our daughter asked me to spell

The words that you see,

Then wrote them herself

Easy as A, B, C…

~

Now here’s the tricky part,

Nothing rhymes with orange, instead

We’ll choose a staple,

How about bread!

~

There’s apple, sweetcorn,

Carrot, cucumber, grapes.

Not forgetting the milk

For those delicious shakes.

~

Thanks for popping by

Our little girl’s café,

Leave a tip and next time

You’ll be offered a latte!…

~

And here it is in its full glory! (without overlays!)

A Mothers Day poem for my Mum ~ #WonderfulWorldofWriting

mothers day poem mother's day poem WonderfulWorldofWriting writing blog linky mum flowers

‘My Amazing Mum’ ~ a poem for Mothers Day

~
My amazing Mum is lovely
And kind and thoughtful too,
When it comes to hugs and kisses
There’s nothing she can’t do…
~
Through the years she’s cooked my food,
Washed my clothes and helped me out,
She’s the best Mum ever, ever,
Of that there is no doubt…
~
In my times of need, she’s there
She’s selfless to a tee,
She so deserves these flowers,
So now, listen to my plea…
~
A bouquet would make her day
She loves a bunch of blooms,
A finely scented splash of colour
To brighten up a room…
~
So Mum, ‘thanks’ for all you do,
There’s one more thing I’d like to say,
You deserve this bunch of flowers,
All my love on Mother’s Day xx
~
By Carol Cameleon 2015

This was written as a competition entry to win my lovely Mum a bouquet of flowers for Mother’s Day.  So winner or not, this is a virtual bunch of flowers!

My blog is like a doorway ~ poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

blog doorway poem wonderfulworldofwriting writing blog linky

My blog is like a doorway…

~

A warm welcome to my blog, you will see it’s like a house.

Come over the threshold, turn the handle, the proverbial ‘mouse’.

 ~

In the hallway it’s fresh and light, it’s the decor, it’s the ‘theme’.

It’s personal choice, it reflects your blog, it’s the first thing to be seen.

~

My visitors are my ‘followers’, they come by every day.

A refreshing drink and a chat, it’s great to hear what they say.

~

Into the kitchen, kettle on, time for coffee and cake.

I love to hear their thoughts and banter, with the ‘comments’ that they make.

 ~

Into the lounge, take a seat, make yourself at home.

Escuse me a minute, look around while I answer the phone.

 ~

Someone’s got lost, their sat nav’s broken, they don’t know where to go,

When you’re trying to find my blog, you rely on good ‘SEO’.

 ~

Back again.  What to do when the comments halt or stall?

You can get fresh air from a proverbial ‘window’ when you hit a blog ‘brick wall’.

~

Up the stairs, one by one, this is your ranking goal,

A comfort break to the bathroom and of course the ‘blog roll’!

~

So, is your ‘house’ on a busy road or is it a dead end?

Good content’s vital for your blog, remember this my friend.

 ~

Just like a house, a blog’s good structure really is the ‘key’,

Come in, through my ‘doorway’, you’re always welcome, come and visit me!

By Carol Cameleon

I published this poem months ago on this very same blog but aside from being snowed under with my current writing project, I have been musing on how far my blog has come.  With that in mind, I wanted to give this another airing 🙂

Look what we’ve got ~ poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

WonderfulWorldofWriting poem Look what we've got writing blog gratitude

Look what we’ve got…

~

We’re all entitled to our wallowing time

Our “what if” moments, waiting for a sign.

But when we’re done, all our tears subsided,

It’s time to be positive and open-minded.

~

Then we should focus, be grateful… for what?

That we’re here, in the ‘now’; look what we’ve got…

Each other, united, come together as one,

There’s a long way to go but for now we have won.

A Spectator’s View pt 1~ Short story #WonderfulWorldofWriting

wonderful world of writing blog linky link up party short story

A SPECTATOR’S VIEW part 1

John put his briefcase down, lit a cigarette and pulled out his mobile phone. It was time to seal a deal before the train came. He had dealt with George before so there would be no need for formalities. Taking a sip of the tasteless takeaway tea, he tapped on his phone to speed dial his client on hands-free.

George. John Barnes here. Morning to you. Have you had any other quotes for the refurbishment yet?”

Ah John, morning. Well yes, as it happens I have had a very competitive quote from a newly established company,” George replied. “All the employees have reputable backgrounds themselves and I have to say that I am very keen to speak to them again.” George knew that John would not like his answer.

I see. That’s all well and good George,” came the reply, “but perhaps you should ask yourself if you can trust a new company with no proven track record. By that I mean can you risk spending thousands of pounds of your company’s profit on a refurbished office that will need maintenance work sooner rather than later?” John asked his client with a feeling of self-assurance.

George was not in the mood for John’s manipulation this morning. He had a train to catch and was ready to sit down and read his newspaper before switching his laptop on. To this end he decided to play it cool with John.

Perhaps you should ask yourself if a new company manned by people with a vast knowledge and experience should be any less worthy of this contract than your lot who have been in the business for years and tend to have blinkers on?”

John could tell this was not going to be an easy deal to clinch. As he came back with his reply, George saw him standing at the end of the platform, all hunched over in the cold.

I understand what you’re saying George”, John stressed, rubbing his eyes with a clenched fist.

But do you really John?” George asked, interrupting calmly and firmly. “Can you honestly say that you think your deal would beat any other company’s worth its salt?”

John tensed up and rubbed his nose and said, “The quote I have given you is reflective of the materials and tools to be used.”

Liar”, thought George, “I bet you couldn’t look me in the eye and say that.”

With a pregnant pause John continued…

Valentines Day ~ a poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

Valentines Day Valentine's poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting #writing blog linky

Valentines Day

As I bring to the fore all the reasons to smile,

I see the good life, no reason to wallow,

Well, why would I wallow, why would I moan?

Reasons to be grateful, I’m not alone,

I don’t need a reason like Valentine’s Day

To feel the love around me each day,

Am I lucky?  Maybe. But some say you create

Your own happiness, and when you find your soul mate,

You just know deep in your heart,

Deep in your soul,

As long as they’re with me,

I know I’ll be ‘whole’.
