7 reasons to love Autumn

Autumn.  I love everything about it.

(Or Fall to our American friends!)

From early Autumn when I can still wear my flip flops (because I hate sweaty feet!) to the throws (no pun intended) of Autumn when I like socks and boots or cosy slippers.

From early Autumn when I can still sit in the garden with hubby with said flip flops on, writing my goals, sipping on a herbal tea, dog at my feet, 8yo pottering in an out.  To the throws of Autumn when I’ve got the layers on, the rugs under my feet and we’re planning various home projects from dining room rejigs with feature walls , and bathroom refits to a kitchen refurbishment.

From early Autumn when the temperature in the air changes after a balmy summer, when you can feel the air changing and you feel the slightly damp and cold air after stepping outside for the first time in a morning.  To the throws of Autumn when there’s a definite crispness to the air, a cool feel as you pull your jacket collar up closer around your neck to keep the chill out.

7 Reasons to Love Autumn

From early Autumn when I slip a thin jacket on over my top to go outside, to keep the slight chill out.  To the throws of Autumn when the jacket gets thicker and I keep my gloves in my pockets, just in case, because I can’t stand cold hands.

From early Autumn when I begin to sort through my summer clothes and dig out the thicker clothes in a bid to declutter.  To the throws of Autumn when the thick coats have firmly taken their place on the coat pegs that were barely used in the Summer.

From early Autumn when I determinedly still hang my washing out on a semi-dry day just to get some air to it.  To the throws of Autumn when a load of washing goes straight in the tumble drier because we’ve really no room for a clothes horse and anyway, drying clothes inside is bad for your health and the house.

From early Autumn when I love to see the sparkle of fairy lights in our hygged-up living room and I can see them slightly earlier as the nights begin to draw in.  To the throws of Autumn when the clocks go back, the blinds get pulled, the sparkly fairy lights go on and a little bit of indulgence in the form of hibernation begins.  🙂

Love is about this for me… what do YOU think love is?

As a teenager, I used to secretly hope for a Valentine’s Day card from my secret love.  It never happened though!
I did get a card one year from a boyfriend but that’s been about my fill!

As I’ve grown up, I’ve come to realise that love isn’t all about chocolate and flowers (though I wouldn’t say no to them any day of the week… I’ll even buy them myself.  I mean, why not?!)
Love is about this for me…
What do you think love is full wellbeing happiness valentines day virtually all sorts

In our house…
Love is all about having a lingering, tight hug every day.
Love is all about us telling our daughter what an amazing person she is and using empowering words.  Every. Single. Day.
Love is all about having group hugs.
Love is all about clearing the negative energy that comes into our home; the energy that clings on to us on a daily basis.
Love is all about us loving each other in our house and then leaving the house happy, full of our own and each other’s love and sharing that love.
Love is free – it’s not about chocolates, flowers or cards (though the chocolates and flowers would still be nice!)
Love is simple and free… it’s about nurturing the right energy and making space for it 🙂

Welcome to the world of peace, love and unity ~ it’s an art form

 Peace, love, unity.

On a recent visit to London, we stumbled upon this amazing pavement muriel in Trafalgar Square.

One of the reasons I love going to London (or any major city) is the sheer number of nationalities milling around.

But on this particular day in Trafalgar Square, I loved the buzz in the air and I love the silhouettes of the people taking pictures while taking selfies or snapping the muriel in all its glory.

To me, this picture begs the question:

Why can’t we all just share and unite on this one planet… holding hands together?

It’s a shame that life isn’t that simple but for stumbling upon this amazing piece of artwork that brings diversity back together momentarily, we can be thankful that we saw it at all. 🙂

It reminds me of a decorative tag on my tea light holder that simply says “smile is the same in any language”.

And so it is!

Bags of Love

Little gives me greater pleasure or gives me a warmer, fuzzier feeling than our little girl and her daddy spending one-on-one time together.

Although I miss not being a part of it, I know it’s vital that they have this time together.

And then there’s hearing all about that special time from our little as she tells me (with great animation) of all the things they’ve done together!

Hearing it in her words, in her expression, hearing about her favourite parts is just simply priceless!

One moment like this came recently.  During a day out together, our little girl had chosen a bag for me (which hubby bought of course, thanks hubby!)

This was not just any bag, it was a bag chosen with love by our daughter.  In my favourite colour – turquoise!

I started using it straight away and it will always be special to me.  Our daughter chose a pink one and has prettied it up even more.

Here’s hers…

Hers tends to be used for storing and transporting loom bands and reams!

And mine?

It’s full of love and always will be!

Why are these sweets so special?

When I collected our little girl from school on the penultimate day of year 1, she was clutching a little bag.  On it was a hand-written note from her teacher and inside it was a little bit like a party bag – with little gifts such as a notepad, stickers, pencils, rubbers, pens…

and a packet of sweets!

Everyone in the class got one of course and it was a really lovely gesture from the teacher.

A gesture that will remain in our daughter’s memory for years to come – she really did like her teacher and she helped her settle into her new school.

Over the summer we convinced her that life is ever-changing and getting a new teacher is a part of the ever-changing life.

When our daughter gave me one of her sweets, there were 2 left.

She decided she would give them to her cousins, who she dotes on.

How sweet is that?!…

What sweet things has your little one done?  I’d love to hear!  Please comment below or tweet me @AllSortsHere

Why is this Valentine’s Day card so special?

It was a normal day on the school run.  We walked home in the winter sunshine; we chatted about the day; we talked about who our little girl had played with; we got home, had a snack and I went through her book bag for the usual ‘stuff’.  And that’s when I came across this… but why is this Valentine’s Day card so special?

Valentines day card alternative with love special memories homemade creative imagination 1

Yes, it’s been hand drawn with love from my little girl… that makes it pretty special of course.

Yes, it shows someone on the front (me, I’m told…) with a little crown and hearts for eyes, nose and mouth… that makes it pretty special.  Of course it does.

Yes it’s special for both of these reasons but it’s also special because there’s a drawing of a scorpion’s leg on the back!…

Valentines day card alternative with love special memories homemade creative imagination 2I was still smiling over the time our beautiful little girl had taken in making me, her mummy, a lovely card with so much love.  I read the lovely sentiment inside and then turned to the back to see… something.  So I asked our little girl, “that’s so lovely, thank you.  And what have you drawn on the back here?”

“Well mummy, that’s a scorpion’s leg because scorpions live in the desert and it’s hot in the desert!”

And that’s why this valentine’s card is so special…

She’s clearly been learning deserts and the like and that makes it all the more special to me 😉

What obscure things have appeared on your valentine’s day card (with love, of course!)?  I’d love to hear about it in the comments below 🙂

‘Y’ is for Yes #AtoZChallenge

Hello and welcome to my take on the #AtoZChallenge.  You can find out why I’m taking part in ‘From Alpha to Zulu and everything in between…’

Y #AtoZChallenge blog writing a to z april challenge yes no positive negative opposites joy happy contagious smile

‘Y’ is for Yes #AtoZChallenge

Have you ever stopped to think about what happens when you say ‘yes’ and ‘no’?

When we pronounce it with effort, our mouths naturally widen and then form something of a smile when we say ‘yes’.

When we say ‘no’ our mouths naturally narrow and almost close up, doing the opposite of smile.

Smiles tend to be more contagious.

So, let’s smile more and say ‘yes’!
