 The Thing About Music

When you hear the start of your favourite track,

Have you noticed what happens, that it takes you back…?

Back to a time, be it good or bad,

Your emotions will remind you, happy or sad…

That’s the thing about music, whether dancy or not,

You can make your own playlist, with your own number 1 spot;

You don’t need a rock star or a disco ball,

Close your eyes and feel ‘that’; it’s universal, for all.

In the blink of an eye, you’re transported away

To a first date, or a dance, or a holiday;

The rhythmn of music resonates far and wide,

Bringing people together, knocking down the divide…

A festival for the senses, the rhythm, the beat,

It moves you, it shakes you, you gotta move your feet!

As it vibrates through your body, your hips sway, your arms move,

Music’s all around us, let it in, feel your groove…

Their Eyes Sparkle Wide Poem Wonderful World Of Writing Blog Linky

When Their Eyes Sparkle Wide

When I looked through her school bag for homework and slips

I found an envelope inside, “To the parents of Miss…”

Absent-mindedly I thought, “It’s likely about SATS.”

As I skim-read, blah blah, wait, “I’m delighted that…”

Wait, what?  Slow down, the letter’s not what I thought,

The pride rushed right through me like a proud mummy’s ought;

I read it again, word by word, slowly this time,

Taking in each syllable, the wonder all mine…

There have been moments a-plenty in my days as a Mum

When my heart’s near burst open, and this moment is one;

Reading on some more, I called our daughter to look,

Slowly, precisely she read, “…poem published in a book!”

Our girl’s wonder, amazement, her eyes sparkling wide,

Her poem to be printed and read far and wide!

She’d penned a poem at school and handed it in,

Of 11,000 entries, the judges’ decision was ‘win’!

And it is a ‘win’ cos it’s amazing and believe it or not,

Her original, own poem is in the final ‘lot’;

She’s been chosen from thousands, she’s our little star

Our creative, wonderful daughter, see her talent go far…

A Poem About Pet Loss

Pets can be so different,

And their owners too;

Different personalities

That come shining through…

When they’re no longer there

And only memories remain

We look back fondly at their quirks

Wishing to see them again.

Rosie was our pet, our cat

Much joy she brought us too,

I remember when we bought her home

It was so exciting and new…

She fitted in the carrier with another kitten,

Skitting here and there,

She was so funny

Yes we were smitten…

She had a little nook, a box

Where she often lay,

She’d pop her head up out of the top,

She really made our day!

A typical cat, she’d often play

And chase her tail around,

The Queen of funny she really was

A cat or maybe a clown!

When you lose a pet, a void appears

a massive gap is left

Empty bowls and beds, less noise, less ‘them’

Leave you feeling quite bereft

At times like these I remember

All the funny times and more,

Those snuggles on the sofa,

Cat food all over the floor!

Rosie, we will miss you,

But we’re glad your now at rest,

Your cheeky character, exploring nature,

You really were the best!

xXx

‘Making room for her nearly 8 year old things’ ~ poem

Making room full for her nearly 8 year old things poem poetry parenting growing up virtually all sorts

‘Making Room for her nearly 8 year old Things’

We often tell our daughter that she needs to de-clutter,

“To make room for more tat!”, I say with a mutter;

Her room needs a sort out with a fine tooth-comb,

For the old toys that now need a new home…

Instead of tidying, she’s often found playing,

Unearthing old toys that it seems are now staying,

“It’s a pre-school book, you no longer need,

It’s been in a box, chapter books you now read!”

Okay, she tells me, she’ll sort that box out,

So I leave her to playing, not sorting, no doubt;

But a little while later she presents a small pile,

Of nick-nacks that I’ve not seen for a while…

“I don’t need these now, they’re too young for me!

I’ve had them since I was around about three.”

‘Tis true and my heart, well it does a small flip,

Cos I know she’s growing up in a hop and skip!

Peppa Pig, Disney Princesses are all relegated

To the ‘not wanted’ stack, I feel somewhat deflated…

But you know what?  It’s all good and exciting,

The next step of our journey that it seems we’re alighting…

With makeup, with fashions, with disco lights,

With pop music, with dancing and slightly later nights,

All signs our little girl is little no more,

As she practices dance moves on the living floor.

We see her character growing and growing,

Moulding to where the wind takes her, it’s blowing!

Leaving her old toys, all stacked up in the wings

Making room for her nearly 8 year old things…

This adventure they call parenthood ~ poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

I try to include writing quite regularly on my blog and because my blog is about positive thinking, I wanted to explain in this post why my writing posts may not *always* follow suit…

Meanwhile, here are my thoughts on parenthood…

This Adventure they call Parenthood Poem

~

This adventure they call parenthood

This adventure, this journey

They call ‘parenthood’,

Began with 2 lines on a test,

Mouths wide open we stood…

~

…In disbelief, in awe,

In excitement, in glee,

A mummy and daddy to

a new life we would be.

~

Tears and tantrums would come,

All this and much more,

That’s just me and hubby

Throwing ourselves on the floor…

~

It’s a privileged position to nurture a baby,

To guide them, to love them,

Unconditionally,

No ‘maybe’.

~

The best adventure you’ll have

Of that there’s no doubt.

There’s no love quite like it,

As we have found out…

“It’s time” ~ poem

How are you doing with your resolutions and goals?

Were they set at the beginning of the year?

Or did you say to yourself…

its time poem goals plans opportunity chance white space

I said that to myself and I started my gratitude journal in December one year instead of 1st of January!  It helps me to focus on my happiness each week.

It’s such a great tool for focussing on gratitude that I thought “why wait?”

I saw little point in waiting because…

When you wait you do nothing,

you make time stand still.

You don’t tick or tock,

you procrastinate at will.

When time stands still,

the world still moves on…

Life goes on around you

it waits for no one.

If you wait for a chance

you’re a fool to be sure;

you should try all the locks

to open the door!

For when you wait, you do nothing,

chances are you’ll lose out;

don’t wait, you can do it,

of that there’s no doubt…

Back to the drawing board ~ when your plans go off course

Our daughter was busy at her desk, pencil in hand with an old diary open.  And that moment in time brought to mind the phrase ‘back to the drawing board’.  Which inspired the following poem.  It made me consider whether our daughter’s life is already mapped out and what influence she/we could have on it…
 back-to-the-drawing-board-plans-goals-fate-life-path-motivation-focus
 Back to the drawing board
When you’ve got a plan that goes off course,
Can you feel that pull?  It’s life’s energy force;
It’s pulling you here but you want to go there,
Do you dig in your heels like a stubborn mare?
~
Do you accept your ‘fate’, if that’s what it’s called,
Or do you refuse to ever be stalled?
You’ve got your dreams, you’ve worked hard night and day,
You’ll reach your end goals, whatever they say…
~
You push yourself forward, you push more and more,
You hear the ‘knock’ at opportunity’s door,
You open it wide with a crash and a clout,
“Who’s there?” goes the next line, “it’s me, so watch out!”
~
Cos that’s what you need to succeed, be your best,
To rise up and up, to be there with the rest;
You need grit, discipline, you need a game plan,
A timeline and goals – to shout out “I can!”
~
“I can and I will,” said again and again,
So you never give up, it’s not ‘if’ but ‘when’…
‘When’ you’ve got support at your east and your west,
Motivation and focus to strive, be your best.
When you’ve got ambition at your south and your north,
You find your path to follow, to conquer, go forth.
~
When the signposts move, the path changes for you,
The lights will synch up. Wait.  There’s your cue.
The red, the amber, the green, go, go, go!
Ease off the brake, indicate, don’t go slow.
~
When you’ve got a plan that goes off course,
There’s a reason for that; it’s life’s energy force.
It’s pulling you there but you want to go here,
Do your thing, be yourself and get into gear!

I’ve mentioned before that our garden is very small and when we moved house, it was in Autumn, so we didn’t spend any time out there.

When spring sprung, we decided to pretty it up and painted the wall.  It might not look very tidy but we had loads of fun painting it and it really brightens up the garden, in fact the whole back area of our block of houses.

It also inspired this poem…

Another Brick in the Wall

When your garden is dull and really quite small,

You can pretty it up, let’s start with the wall!

You can paint it all over, in one block of red,

Or paint random bricks different colours instead!

You can each take a turn with yellow, red or pink,

Whatever the pattern, it looks great, don’t you think?

It’s a breath of fresh air, it’s a cheerful sight,

On a Summer’s day and an Autumnal night.

It’s brightened our garden, our haven, our place,

To chill our boots and to slow down the pace.

Step into the cafe ~ poem

It’s time this poem was shown the light of day again… inspired by a cafe menu made by our little girl, then about 3/4 (now 6 !)

step into the cafe poem creation parenting

Step into the cafe

~

Step into the café,

And pull up a pew.

There’s something for me,

There’s something for you.

~

It’s all listed here,

From left to right.

Just choose what you fancy,

If you’d like a quick bite.

~

Our daughter asked me to spell

The words that you see,

Then wrote them herself

Easy as A, B, C…

~

Now here’s the tricky part,

Nothing rhymes with orange, instead

We’ll choose a staple,

How about bread!

~

There’s apple, sweetcorn,

Carrot, cucumber, grapes.

Not forgetting the milk

For those delicious shakes.

~

Thanks for popping by

Our little girl’s café,

Leave a tip and next time

You’ll be offered a latte!…

~

And here it is in its full glory! (without overlays!)

In our garden is a wall and a tree,

And right at the bottom, what will you see?

A teddy bear with a picnic, a fairy, a gnome?

It’s none of these, it’s a right Royal home!

~

A home for a princess, a queen or a king?

With turrets, a staircase, a drawbridge thing?

A wicked witch, hair black as a raven?

It’s none of these, it’s an insect haven!

~

What’s it built with, this haven of theirs?

Gingerbread for the roof? Sweets for the stairs?

Soil from the garden? And sap from the trees?

None of these; it’s built with twigs and leaves!

how to make how to build an insect hotel poem it's none of these making outdoors sunshine imagination insect haven parenting free play nature

~

We got down to nature in our own back yard,

She led the way, balancing leaves so hard,

We foraged for stones, for twigs, a snail’s shell,

We made a house of memories ‘n the ants liked it as well!

~

By Carol Cameleon 2016

The story behind the poem: After what can only be described as a dismal few days for weather here in the UK, the clouds parted and we built an insect hotel!  We had made a ‘flower garden’ previously and it was just beautiful to see our little girl (6) using her imagination to make a shelter for the insects 🙂
