Your weekly dose of happiness…

and the first one of the new year!

Welcome back!  It’s been so nice to have a break but it’s equally nice to be back and welcome you back!

So, let’s have a little reminder of what #HighlightsofHappy is all about…

It’s a common phrase isn’t it?…

“Bad things come in 3’s”

or words similar to that!

So, let’s flip it because everyone deserves a little happiness … (you know how I love to spread happiness and turn a negative into a positive with positive thinking !)

Let’s spread that happiness and find 3 things to be grateful for (or even more… well, why not?!)

In my weekly feature, I look back over my gratitude journal because that’s the great thing about gratitude and using my gratitude journal – it gives me the opportunity to look back and be grateful all over again 🙂  And that’s what I do here, in my weekly feature, I look back on my #HighlightsofHappy.

I round it off with one word that sums up my happy…  why not do the same?

If you’re a blogger, why not share your happy post from the last week or so in the linky below?

If you’re on instagram, why not tag your happy snap #HighlightsofHappy and link up your pic in the linky below?

If you’re on twitter, why not tweet your happy with #HighlightsofHappy ?

If you’re all 3, why not do all 3??  The linky is below. (To link your insta happy snap, simply click on your insta pic, copy the url and paste into the linky tool!)

(If you join in with my #HighlightsofHappy community on instagram, I post up my favourite snaps every Friday on instagram.)

How I find balance in life with my daily routine

How I find balance in life with my daily routine

With the general business and busyness of everyday life, it’s so easy to get swept up in the day isn’t it?  But I find that by starting my day off on the right ‘foot’, it gives me a head start in overcoming any stress and negativity that comes my way throughout the day.  By having a daily routine, I have time for me albeit in the early hours before any else is awake.  Yes, I often struggle to get out of bed in the morning due to tiredness but I usually stick to my daily routine which happens to be in the morning (and bits of it are often repeated at night) and I really feel the difference.

Daily Routine Balance Habit Wellbeing Self Care Zen

So what do I do in my daily routine to keep my ‘zen’ in balance?

The benefits of morning yoga… relax with #TheZenZing

#TheZenZing relax yoga breathing revitalise energise morning routine zen

Hello and welcome to another #TheZenZing where this month I’m looking at the benefits of a morning yoga session.

In #TheZenZing I share how you can put the energy back into your life!

{Last month we looked at reiki and there was a giveaway of a distance reiki healing session (look out for another one very soon!) Would you be interested in receiving distance reiki?  Let me know by tweeting @AllSortsHere.}

Back to this month…. I’ve talked before about how I took inspiration from Vicki Psarias over at HonestMum by doing a morning yoga routine.  It’s 1 of 5 great ways to control anxiety and a month or two later and I can definitely feel the benefit…

Not only is my morning yoga helping me to right the writing but rising 30 minutes earlier is also energising me.  Yes, really!  (Putting my phone alarm on the other side of the room also helps!..)

I grab my comfy, soft TnS yoga mat, roll it out and start my stretches by following this routine.  Accompanied by my conscious breathing, I really do feel the stretches working and next, I plan to ‘stretch’ to getting a yoga block to help with my yoga.

After my short routine, I feel revitalised and slurp on my hot lemon water (which brews while I’m doing my yoga!), in between doing the pack-ups for the day.

That 30 minutes to myself makes me feel organised, revitalised and sets me up for the day 🙂 …before I get the hubby and our little girl up for brekkie!

What do you do to revitalise yourself for the day?  And don’t say have a coffee! 😉

 It’s #TheZenZing…

I invite you to share your blog posts on anything ‘positive, happy and full of zing’  by linking up each month to #TheZenZing linky.  It will be open from 0600 GMT on the 1st of each month for 2 weeks.   I’ll share each post across my social media and in my monthly newsletter. In the following month’s #TheZenZing post, I will share my favourite post from the previous month’s linky.

So get involved!  Spread #TheZenZing positive vibe 🙂

How to win a stand-off with your child…

blog pic stand off

So, have you ever had a stand-off with your child?!  Well who hasn’t?…

To parents and non-parents alike, here’s a funny old tale:

It’s bedtime.  We’ve had the bath and our little bear has decided that she doesn’t want a story downstairs.  Okay, no problem.  I tell here that in 5 minutes it’s time to go upstairs, clean teeth, story in bed and night night time – as it is every night.  This routine has worked wonders for us in truth.  I’m not trying to be a smug mummy by saying that.  Yes, we have our over-tired nights where Daddy’s working and she will push and push (and push) and I wonder if I’m doing it ‘right’.  But generally, the bedtime routine is great for us.

This night however, like an episode of Holby City, I knew something was afoot…

Our little bear asks if she can take 2 of her princess books to bed to read to her teddies.  I tell her that she can, but I have to take the DVD out of one of them first because it doesn’t go in her bedroom. This is because she once made something at playgroup with a CD.  It snapped at home and was razor sharp.  Too dangerous for her bedroom.

I digress…  I tell her the DVD lives downstairs.  Knowing this was not going to be the right answer, I told myself to stand firm.  Sure enough, our bear got a vice grip on the books and rang off with them, through the kitchen, through the hall and up the stairs!

At this point, I didn’t want to turn it into a game but equally I knew she was having a paddy, a tantrum, call it what you will, and I didn’t want her to trip up and hurt herself on the stairs.  Grasping the books like a vice, she stood on the top step and told me, through tears, that she wanted to take the DVD to bed.

Firmly I told her to move onto the landing where it was safe because we don’t stop and talk on the stairs.  Again, I told myself to stand firm, keep my voice level and not to grab the book – otherwise she’s won – I mentally said.

It did cross my min that this truly was a stand-off with our 4 year old!  Oh boy!

Vice-like grip, back turned to me, bottom lip firmly out.

“E, give me the book please. I’m going to take the DVD downstairs where it lives and you can have the book in your bedroom.”

After maybe 4 times of saying this, she slowly glanced sideways at me, backed herself onto my lap and ‘sort of’ let me hold the book at the same time as her.  She was still unsure.. I took the book, slid the DVD out, removed her from my lap and took it downstairs.

You thought it was over?  I knew it wasn’t!

One 4 year old face down on the landing carpet kicking her legs and screaming… not the calmest bedtime to be honest.

And we hadn’t even cleaned our teeth yet.

She wasn’t keen on this either.

So I stepped over her and said I was going to clean my teeth.  She looked up and asked me to do hers for her.  I won!!  Yeeees!

How did I win?  In my humble opinion , I stood my ground, I didn’t raise my voice, I didn’t snatch the book off her and I repeated what it was I wanted her to do.

And. I. Did. It.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not SuperMum or SuperNanny (but I’ll bet she would’ve been  proud!) but yeah, I stood my ground and I won.

And I did a cracking job of uncorking that bottle with my teeth afterwards…
