Valentines Day ~ a poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

Valentines Day Valentine's poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting #writing blog linky

Valentines Day

As I bring to the fore all the reasons to smile,

I see the good life, no reason to wallow,

Well, why would I wallow, why would I moan?

Reasons to be grateful, I’m not alone,

I don’t need a reason like Valentine’s Day

To feel the love around me each day,

Am I lucky?  Maybe. But some say you create

Your own happiness, and when you find your soul mate,

You just know deep in your heart,

Deep in your soul,

As long as they’re with me,

I know I’ll be ‘whole’.

Ode to Mum on the go ~ a poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

wonderfulworldofwriting poem ode to mum on the go blog linky

How on earth do you do it? ~ An ode to mum on the go’

~

How on earth do you do it?

Please tell me how…

You’re a super-organised mum

And I’m a jealous cow!

~

Jealous of your style,

Of your freshly made-up face

Of your poker straight hair

Of your people carrier ‘Espace’…

~

You never look flustered,

If you are, you hide it well,

You’ve always time to stop and chat

And on the PTA as well!

~

So, how on earth do you do it?

We all so want to know…

Is it the prozac or the pro-plus

Or the double espresso to-go?!…

Every Writer’s Woe ~ a poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

Every Writer's Woe poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting blog linky writing writer's block

Whizzing along with my pen in my hand,

I watch the words form and it’s just as I’d planned.

Then, crash, bang, whallop, the ideas fizzle away,

Evaporating into nothing, now what to say?!

~

I’ve a void to fill, as I read back on my thoughts,

In the hope I’ll return to virtually all sorts…

All sorts of inspiration, all sorts of masterpieces,

But it’s no good, not happening, my brain once again freezes…

~

So, dear reader, with not alot to show,

I’ll succumb to the blockage that is every writer’s woe,

But all’s not lost, don’t call the writing police,

This piece of writing has unlocked a literary masterpiece!

By Carol Cameleon

I find that if I write a very short, nonsense rhyme at the end of a writing session, it kind of closes the creative ‘door’ (or at least keeps it ajar – it’s never full closed!) and gives me ‘permission’ to call it a day!  It doesn’t matter that it doesn’t make sense or has very tenuous rhymes.  Which is just as well 😉

Where is the beginning? A poem on chakras ~ #WonderfulWorldofWriting

Beginnings chakras poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting writing blog

Where is the beginning? A poem on chakras

What’s at the beginning?

It all starts at the root,

When we’re not grounded,

Branches can’t develop their shoots.

~

Our branches need feeding

With healthy, wholesome foods,

If not they imbalance

And affect our moods.

~

When we work from the bottom

And end up at the top,

We have spinning wheels, or

‘chakras’ which never stop…

~

Want to feel peaceful and calm?

Meditate daily, don’t be shy,

And your friends they may comment,

Share the love, tell them why…

~

…Why you’re feeling grounded

And rooted, like a tree to the earth.

Why those positive thoughts and good food

Give a sense of self-worth.

~

…Why you’re feeling creative

Bursting with thoughts and ideas,

As they ebb and flow like the water,

Eroding your fears.

~

…Why your ego’s not ‘pumped up’,

You’re calm and ‘together’,

You don’t listen to the bad things,

You don’t need ‘lucky heather’.

~

…Why your breathing’s steady and easy

While your heart pumps fresh air,

Pure and cleansed through your body,

To keep you alert and ‘all there’.

~

…Why you’re feeling expressive

And you’re speaking your mind,

Being open and clear,

It’s the best way, you will find.

~

…Why your sixth sense is open,

It’s your third eye, you see.

Is your perception of reality

With them or with ‘me’?

~

…Why your crown’s like a flower,

Its stem’s like your spine,

A petal for each chakra

Now you’re upright and ‘aligned’.

~

Now you’re beginning to see

What your thoughts can do,

Breathe slowly, be mindful

That it all starts with you.

“The E.D.D.” ~ My Fantastic Friday Fiction Offering…

Friday Fiction writing blog linky The EDD

Frank and Louise couldn’t decide whether to find out the sexes of their babies.  Both were of the opinion that they had waited this long and come this far that it didn’t matter whether they were pink or blue.  But still, Louise did window shopping in abundance.  From the car seats to the cots, everything was discussed incessantly.  But it was this incessant chatter, this incessant planning that riled Frank somewhat.

How could he ever admit this though?  More importantly, how could he get his head around that odd feeling of resentment that he had towards Louise’s growing bump?  He wanted his wife back.  He wanted her to lavish attention on him, not on baby grows and sterilising equipment.

Frank wondered privately what was the point of planning when you had an EDD?  As if to answer his silent question, Louise openly declared that planning was everything.  After all, the Estimated Delivery Date was just an idea, just a scientific tool to measure clinical detail and growth.  Really, the babies would come when they wanted to and it was best to be prepared, Louise declared.

And so Louise’s countdown continued to the weeks until the next scan, as they got closer and closer to meeting their bundles.  Yet Louise’s growing bump was getting perilously close to pushing Frank further and further away…

~

This story follows on from my previous Friday Fiction offering “Miraculous” and you can read the next installment “The Time for What?” here.  A mini saga seems to have naturally been created around parents-to-be Frank and Louise.  That’s what I love about writing, just going with the flow and seeing where it takes you!  This week’s piece is inspired by the ‘Footnotes’ quote:

“New discoveries in science and mathematics often consist of a synthesis between theories or concepts which have hitherto been regarded as unconnected.”
Dr. Anthony Storr, 1920-2001. British psychiatrist

Friendship ~ poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

friendship #WonderfulWorldofWriting writing blog

Friendship

~

Some friendships come,

Some friendships go,

It’s a part of life,

She’s coming to know.

~

As she tries so hard to tell me,

As she tries so hard to say,

I make out that her friend was

Not at pre-school again today.

~

I hold her close to my heart,

I give her a big, firm cuddle,

Stroke her hair, hold back my tears,

Our little bear’s in a muddle.

~

She thinks her friend’s deserted her,

Not one friend but two,

My instinct tells me that

She thinks I will now too.

~

I can offer her little reassurance as

Her sobs subside from exhaustion,

I see her tear-stained face

And in her eyes I see her heart broken.

~

The circles of friendship are a wonderful thing,

The trust, joy, love, loyalty that they bring,

But our little bear is tired and confused

Her little heart has been trampled on and utterly bruised.

~

By Carol Cameleon

Written when our little bear was at pre-school.  Now at school, her mind is a little more mature but the potential for confusion is certainly still there…

Do you read, listen or ‘see’? ~ poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

#WonderfulWorldofWriting news writing poem blog

And here is the news…

~

Do you read the news

For worldwide views?

Or do you choose to

Follow simply to amuse?

~

Do you read it?

Do you listen?

Or do you ‘see’?

Or do you tend to ignore it, just like me?!

~

Do you follow world news to see who’s boss?

Or celeb TV for the latest goss?

Both versions of ‘news’ make me a bit cross,

They smooth over the rough giving us the ‘gloss’…

~

News paints a picture for me and you,

Covering imperfections, but is it true?

With the ‘touching up’ it should be clear

But instead we’re given political smear…

~

It’s called editing, spinning,

It’s very cleverly used,

But before we know it,

Boy, are we confused?

~

But use your own free will,

Make your own mind up though,

Hear both sides or better still,

Just go with the flow…

A Virtual Dilemma ~ poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

WonderfulWorldofWriting writing blog linky virtual dilemma poem

A Virtual Dilemma

~

I’ve been contemplating something

For a teeny little while,

Should I run 2 blogs or put 2 in 1?

Am I happy with my style?

~

The reason for the separate blogs

Was to keep something for ‘me’,

I’m a wife, a mum, a writer,

I’m a busy little bee…

~

When I blog about my family life

I can be a Mummy Bear,

When I blog all things writing and beyond

I’m in my ‘me’ time lair…

~

This way, the lines are not blurred

with 2 blogs on the go,

2 identities, 2 readerships

2 of everything to get to know…

~

Truth be told I feel some pressure

To try to be a ‘lifestyle’ blog queen,

To include what others have on theirs,

Can’t I be me and go in between?

~

I think I know the answer

But I would love to hear,

Should I stay in neutral/automatic

Or go up or down a gear?

~

Would it be considered ‘up’

To go 2 in 1?

Or be better and/or easier

To stay 1 and 1?

~

For 1 add 1 makes 2, it’s true,

I’m divided, can you see?

Back to square 1, what’s the answer here?

What’s the best all around for me?

“Miraculous” ~ My Fantastic Friday Fiction Offering…

Friday Fiction writing blog miraculous

So here’s the thing.  I needed inspiration for my ‘fantastic friday fiction’ offering.

And here it is:

It was, quite simply, miraculous!  They had counted down to this moment from the second they had dared to announce to the world their happy news.

As every new parent does, both had held their breath while the Sonographer moved the dopplar over Louise’s tummy, which was yet to visibly swell.  Still staring at the screen in total awe of the slightly blurred image that had appeared, the Sonographer’s words were rather distant, echoey even.

Frank was suddenly aware of Louise squeezing his hand so much that the circulation would surely be cut off.  “So this is how it’ll feel during labour!” he mused to himself…

“Frank can you believe it?!” came Louise’s voice shrilling through his thoughts.

“Frankie, we’re having twins!!” came Louise’s ecstatic voice again.

“We’ll have it in stereo…” were Frank’s first thoughts.
