A Virtual Dilemma ~ poem #WonderfulWorldofWriting

A Virtual Dilemma

~

I’ve been contemplating something

For a teeny little while,

Should I run 2 blogs or put 2 in 1?

Am I happy with my style?

~

The reason for the separate blogs

Was to keep something for ‘me’,

I’m a wife, a mum, a writer,

I’m a busy little bee…

~

When I blog about my family life

I can be a Mummy Bear,

When I blog all things writing and beyond

I’m in my ‘me’ time lair…

~

This way, the lines are not blurred

with 2 blogs on the go,

2 identities, 2 readerships

2 of everything to get to know…

~

Truth be told I feel some pressure

To try to be a ‘lifestyle’ blog queen,

To include what others have on theirs,

Can’t I be me and go in between?

~

I think I know the answer

But I would love to hear,

Should I stay in neutral/automatic

Or go up or down a gear?

~

Would it be considered ‘up’

To go 2 in 1?

Or be better and/or easier

To stay 1 and 1?

~

For 1 add 1 makes 2, it’s true,

I’m divided, can you see?

Back to square 1, what’s the answer here?

What’s the best all around for me?

~

  1. Very interesting dilemma Carol and you’ve captured how these questions go round and round, really well!
I’m clearly incredibly slow on the uptake as I hadn’t actually twigged you had another blog! Doh! So I’ve just gone over there and had a read. I never know how anyone copes with having more than one blog (just keeping one going is enough for me!) but I can see that the content is different as this is clearly a ‘writing blog’ and mummybear is obviously in the parenting corner.
I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer to the dilemma except to do what’s right for you. The verse about feeling ‘pressure… to include what others have in theirs’ – I think we all feel a bit like that about blogging! But you can only be you. Follow your gut. xx

    • Thanks Maddy. I think you’ve answered my question in the way that I would/have. I still don’t know what’s right for me to be honest. One day I may wake up and think ‘right, this is it… 2 in 1 day!’ On the other hand, why blur the edges unnecessarily?… Thanks again Maddy for your thoughts 🙂

  2. Brilliant.

I couldn’t keep up with 2 blogs and my writing is part of my lifestyle so it fits anyway.

If you feel your readerships are completely separate then stay as you are but if enough visit both, I’d merge them, halve your blog maintenance and have more time to write! 🙂 #prose4t

    • Hi Lisa, I know the logic behind your comments and I thought I’d made my mind up to keep them separate but my writing is part of my lifestyle too, so perhaps it IS time to merge. Thanks for giving me food for thought 🙂

  3. Brilliantly captured in a poem – and a real dilemma too! I have to say that I started my travel blog recently but that is more of a part time one. Vevivos remains my full-time one and as for Kidglloves – well Cathie basically runs that! I hope you go with your gut on this. Thanks for linking to Prose for Thought xx

  4. Well this is a dilemma I recognise! I have two blogs (I’ve linked to my ‘work’ website here so you can see both if you’re interested and two twitter accounts… They subject matter is distinctly different but there are certainly separate audiences for these (but also some crossover)…. So I’ve kept them separate for now but can see myself merging them more as ‘Mushroom’ gets older, especially if he’s not keen on my blogging about him (he knows I write about him now but at 3 he doesn’t really have an opinion about it yet)!

I’ll be interested to see what your merged blog will look like!
